My club's PA 28 has a fuel pump switch that, from the off position, goes up to pump 1 or down to pump 2, instructors mention that there are two electric pumps and pilots are encouraged to use both alternatively.
I downloaded the POH and technical docs to confirm that the PA28 180 Archer II really has three pumps, but there is never a mention of the second electric pump on the diagrams.

The PA28-181 (and most PA28 series, as far as I know; I've flown the -140, -161, -181, -R-200, and R-201) have one engine driven pump and one electrically-driven backup pump.
I think your club's PA28-181 has an aftermarket addition of a second electric pump.

Quoting Kay (Reply 2): wonder what would make them think three pumps (2 electric + 1 engine driven) are needed when the whole universe has two.
I seem to recall that here in the states there is an STC for the PA-28 that allows for use of automotive fuel, and I believe the STC required an additional fuel pump.
