Crew Scheduling Question

I'm wondering how smaller airlines operating long-range flights only once a week do their crew scheduling. As an example I like to mention Canadian carrier CargoJet Airways, who is running now flights from Hamilton (YHM) to Poland (for LOT) and since this week a flight from Moncton/NB to Cologne/Germany and back to YHM. Obviously they must change crews at the destination airport (these flights return immediatlely with no time for crew rest at the destination).

Is the replacement crew flying over to Europe travelling with the plane or are they using regular scheduled flights ahead to take over the plane in Europe?

How is this done in general (I'm sure there must be a lot of these situations worldwide)?

The larger airlines with more regular flights don't have a problem with that, but how are these smaller airlines doing this?

They can 1) have the pilots on 1 week layover 2) dead head back as non operating crews 3) fly them on an other airline
