Left Turn Rwy 15 Departure At Cairns

Hi Folks,

Does anyone know why there is a left turn immediately after take off on Runway 15 at CNS? There is terrain around the airport but there is a gap between the hills south of the airport which is aligned with the Runway and looks like a safer option. I only presume it is for noise abatement?

Thanks Zeke, that answers it, I thought the gap to the south would be ok for departures as it is used for arrivals to Rwy 33.
