Hi Folks,
Does anyone know why there is a left turn immediately after take off on Runway 15 at CNS? There is terrain around the airport but there is a gap between the hills south of the airport which is aligned with the Runway and looks like a safer option. I only presume it is for noise abatement?
It is for terrain. There is terrain within 5nm from the airport everywhere except for the NE. The requirement is for a maximum of 190 kt and minimum of 25 deg AoB until on the assigned heading or following the SID.

The approach from the south is around 3.1 degrees, and you start off at 6800 ft at 23 nm. Bit much to ask one engine out. The close in terrain is just to the south east about 5nm, towards East Trinity and Yarrabah, the left turn keeps you over water.
