Saw this on Flyertalk, and thought I'd share it here.

Basically, it's an overview of how ATC worked in the late 50's/early 60's. Not too far from today, but things have become much, much more friendly technology-wise.

When did an airport like LAX lose the GCA/PAR controller?

LOL! Oh my god, what a great video. So much has changed and yet so much hasn't. This should absolutely be required viewing for all new hires. My favorite part was the airplanes on motorized sticks at the academy, that and the shrimp boats.

Decades ago, I'd think. Civilian controllers haven't done PAR approaches in ages!

Maybe I've watched "Airplane!" too many times, but every time the video panned over to his seat-mate I half expected him to be dousing himself in gasoline or pulling out a samurai sword...

Great video, it was funny because in class we were just talking about the history of ATC and how it has changed.

"Last year in this country [USA], there were more than 26 million take offs and landings."

I wonder how many that is now? Anyone know? I did google but couldn't find any reliable sources of information. Just out of curiosity

Regards,
