Why Are 787 Engines Only White?

I have noticed on all the 787 engines that they are white. I know some of the airlines paint their engines white as it is but UA and QR's are painted white while the rest of their fleets are painted a different color. Is this a technical reason or just a weird coincidence that these carriers are doing a modified paint on their 787 sub-types?

The 787 slashed customer options for airlines as a way to keep prices down. One of them was standardized engine colors and removal of painting the engines as an option in the order book. I'm not sure if there is a technical reason, but I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't.


If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

They are either grey or white. These are the only two paints that can be applied thinly enough to not make a little "bump" just aft of the inlet ring which would disrupt laminar flow. Someone is probably working on other colors, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
