AF A380 Schedule Anomoly - Going Tech In Advance?

Me and my buddy are flying AF A380 this evening to SIN for a short meeting, booked to return later the same day (Sun Oct 14) to CDG.

The A380 is operating the outbound as scheduled. However it's - and our - return, departing at 2300, is cancelled, and we have been involuntarily rebooked onto a 777-300ER the next day at 1205 - with the same flight number as the cancelled A380 the night before. The 13h delay is exactly how long it will take to get a 777 out to SIN, but with this much notice, why don't they send the 777 now? And more to the point, why do it at all? The A380 is obviously operating out but is staying in SIN? Sched mx in SIN? Non-sched mx in SIN?

Wonder if anyone knows what's happening? Very unusual circumstances and very curious.

No idea, but AF's A380s seem to be going tech in advance quite often, lately.
My last schedules flight with one got downgraded two days in advance (which meant my seat assignment was gone and could not be changed online). My girlfriend and I did get an upgrade though, which meant that the downgrade didn't bother us too much.

Where have all the tri-jets gone...

The 777 is probably scheduled to do something else first.

Are you sure it's a technical issue? They may be doing demand-driven dispatch...if the load factor on the A380 return was too low they may have decided it was worth it to push the flight out and get a smaller gauge aircraft on the route. Not the nicest from a customer service standpoint but it might make business sense.

Tom.

Or, they have to factor in minimum crew rest, as there are likely no "free" B777 crews hanging around SIN.

One of the 8 AF A380 is in Toulouse at Airbus for maintenance ... That's why the program is a bit disrupted at the moment ... With only 7 aircraft legt to serve SIN LAX JFK JNB IAD

Crossed my mind but I find it highly implausible, since the replacement, "change of gauge" sub, the 777, operates 18h later, 1205 the next day, and arrives at CDG at 1915 which is too late for almost any connections. Hotels in SIN for 100s of punters, and in all likelihood, 100+ more in CDG for all the missed connections.

The A380 is definitely operating out to SIN - I can see it while I'm typing - but it isn't coming back (the reg is F-HPJF btw). Baffled!

Just a guess that after the CDG-SIN flight it could be going to a maintenance provider in SIN or elsewere in Asia for repairs related to the A380 wing cracking issue which is requiring fairly extensive modifications to early A380s after they reach a certain number of hours.

According to FlightAware, all AF's A388s are currently in the air, except for F-HPJG, which is at JFK. Which one do you think is in Toulouse for mx?

Just because you don't know the reason doesn't mean there isn't a reason.
