The rear fuselage plug for the A340-500 is 1.07m and for the A340-600 it is 3.20m - so the A340-600 plug is 2.13m greater.

Fascinating link! Do you by any chance know why the fuel capacity for the 500 and 600 is different? I always thought the wing structure was the same for these two?

The A340-500 has a rear center tank with a capacity of 20,042 liters that is not present on the A340-600.

Ah ok, thanks! Per Wikipedia, the HGW versions have an extra ~7000 liters, do you know where this is stored?

It looks like Airbus later added an optional 10,800 forward center tank for the A340-600.

As for the A340-500, it looks like the standard aft center tank is five frames in length, but can optionally be seven frames in length which offers an additional 7,970 liters of volume.

Sorry, I have to ask. 20 000l per tank?
Man, whats the total fuel capacity?

An excellent overview of the initial A340-500 / A340-600 fuel system is available in the September 2000 issue (#26) of Airbus' Flight Airworthiness Support Technology (FAST) technical magazine. Back issues are available at airbus.com/Support/Publications

222000 liters for the A340-500HGW and 204500 for the A340-600HGW. Note that airliners rarely fly with full tanks as it tends to cut down on payload.

The A340-500/600 have a common center section length between frames 38 and 54. After frames 54, both have the additional frames, the additional length is close to what is provided in reply 2.

Its 19741l with 5 frames, or 27900l with 7 frames on the A340-500.

The 7200l option is what the call an additional center tank, it is the shape of a LD6 container that is loaded into the cargo hold, these are available on all Airbus wide bodies. A smaller version is available for the A320 series.

Some details in here http://www.airbus.com/support/public...?eID=dam_frontend_push&docID=17453

It is just an additional ACT in the aft section of the forward cargo hold.

All he would have is google.
