I am trying once and for all straighten out all these X's and E's on the A330 and A340 families. I have used three website aircraft listing websites, planespotters.net, airfleets.net and ch-aviation.ch.
The confusing part is the A340-300 and A330-300. All three websites list different versions of the model for the same aircraft (reg).
For instance on ch-aviation.ch one aircraft might be listed as A340-300E while on planespotters.net it might be listed as the A340-300X. There are several other cases like this. It seems that planespotters.net doesnt list any models as the E version while they do so on ch-aviation and so on.
Now, is the A330-300/A340-300 E and X designations interchangeable, if not which website is correct? Are there any better aircraft fleet listing websites?
Furthermore, is there only one version of the A332, or does it also have the X/E versions?
Any help into this matter is appreciated. Trying to complete my flight log by knowing which of the models I have flown, whether they are the original/X/E version and which ones I have yet to fly.
There are several versions of the A340-300 around, most notably the
A340-311, which is a 257t MTOW version powered by CFM56-5C2 engines @ 31,500lbs
A340-312, with same weights as the -311, but CFM56-5C3 engines @ 34,000lbs
A340-313, again same weights, but CFM56-5C4 @ 34,000lbs
A340-313X, a 271t (optionally 275t) version, using the CFM56-5C4
Airbus then introduced what they officially call the A340-300Enhanced (also referred to as -300E) together with the equivalent versions of the A330. The Enhanced uses improved -5C4/P, which yields a 1% reduction in SFC, and come with the cockpit and certain systems similar to the A340-500/-600.
Similar versions of the A340-200 existed as well, with the A340-213X also referred to as the A340-8000 (at the time the longest-ranged commercial airliner), of which only one was build.

Ha, didnt know there was already a thread on this subject.
Now, it seems then that in reality there are 3 different types of the A330-300 and A340-300. It is the standard, the X version and E version. So then ch-aviation.ch is the website to use when looking it airfleet lists because planespotters.net doesnt list the E version.

The Enhanced version can be a A333, A332 Believe NW was first customer. X was never applied to the A332 though. The Enhanced had LCD displays in cockpit and some other systems from the A346
