Load Factors On Each Day Of The Week

Does anyone have any statistics showing the overall load factors for an airline for each day of the week? I have always had a feel for which days are busiest with some vague reasons. Mondays and Fridays should be busy since the business travelers are returning and leaving home, right? Saturdays and Sundays should be light since business travelers don't travel, right? But then at the same time, the airline usually cuts frequencies on Saturdays to make up for this.

Let's assume no holidays and travel only within the 48 contiguous U.S.

Saturdays are usually pretty light (compared to other days of the week), but Sundays are generally busy as people are returning from wherever in order to be home for work the next day. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are also pretty light.

Depends a lot on the route. On longhaul transcon routes many business travellers have to fly on Sunday for Monday morning meetings. On shorthaul routes they can often take an early flight Monday.

Years ago, especially when fares were still regulated, you noticed much more pronounced differences in load factors by day of week, with flights often almost empty on Saturday for example. But with current revenue management systems and total pricing flexibility, carriers seem to be able to fill most of their seats almost every day of the week by offering low fares to encourage people to travel during the otherwise weak periods.
