I'm after some help with my course work, i'm studying aircraft maintance, foundation degree and our teacher left. We've just got a new teacher and been told that the course work is due in next week.... well I haven't done it and i don't actually know what to write!
If you'd help i'd much appricate it. I'll post the questions below:
a) The drag versus velocity curve is often known as a drag polar. The drag polar is often used to link in with aircraft power curves. How are the power required curves and the drag polar linked?
b) Describe how drag varies with airspeed and the generation of lift. Drag will always be present on a moving body, even though lift is not produced. What do we call this type of drag and how does shape affect it?
c) As lift is generated there is production of induced drag. What is induced drag and how can its affect be seen on an aircraft?
d) Describe the operation of supersonic wind tunnels explain why the size of the working area is so small. As Aircraft materials and technology become more advanced the ability of an aircraft to travel faster continues, how have designers changed their approach to testing new designs to keep pace with the higher operating speeds now possible?
For questions A, B, and C, it's a bit difficult to help without simply giving you the answers. However, it should be easy to find the info for those three in any basic aerodynamics textbook, or from numerous online sources (though of course, I wouldn't rely strictly on an online source).
I have to imagine that if you're taking a class, they have reading materials of some sort for the class.

Agreed with Vikkyvik, all of these questions sans "D" would be answered in your version of the Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge. Incase your institution really sucks and gave you no clue where to find these answers here's a link: http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/aviation/pilot_handbook/
Edit: Come to think of it I think the PHAK only covers the power curve, not sure about the drag polar.
