Dash-8 B And C, Difference?

What is the difference between these two models. Is there any exterior/interior nuance that gives one away?

Are you referring to the ICAO designation for the Dash 8 200 and 300 of DH8B and DH8C respectively?

If so you're looking at an additional 13 seats, 3m in length and approximately an additional 3000kg in MTOW amongst a number of other differences...

I think so. I noted that Piedmont operates both and I did not realize there were two. On FlightAware they show as DH8B AND DH8C. Three meters, that is quite a difference.

DH8A = Dash-8-100 (37 seater)
DH8B = Dash-8-200 (100 with bigger engines I believe)
DH8C = Dash-8-300 (lengthened, 50 seater)
DH8D = Dash-8-Q400 (Q400, 70ish seater)

The -200 is higher powered and heavier than the -100, and also incorporates a couple of systems upgrades. Basically the engines are -300 engines, but derated. Not flat rated to the same max power as the -100. The derate is above the SHP of the PW120 on the -100s. I can't remember the actual numbers, but the -100 had a little over 1800 hp per side, and the -200 was over 2000. Performance was worlds apart. The -200 was fun to fly, the -100 was a pig.

PDT flights showing up as DH8B is an error. They don't have any -200s left in the fleet.

These are the ICAO designators for the aircraft for ATC purposes.

We dont see anything but DH8A's up here (Era). I flew an old Henson / Piedmont bird a few weeks back on ANC-FAI. Looked good in her new clothes and the interior was well kept up. Would have no idea it was a 35k+ cycle airplane from the passenger standpoint.

Leases expired. I heard someone say there were tax reasons why the -200s couldn't be flown in the US again after the leases expired, but I won't swear that's the truth.

The last few -200s that went back are down in Columbia now.
