Hi all

At the moment the United Kingdom is going through a long cold spell brought on by easterly winds blowing in the the northeast.

At Manchester Airport where I work aircraft have been de-iced every morning before their first flight now for approx 3 weeks.

My question is how much on average does de-icing fluid cost per litre? Plus, this surely must be a large cost burden on the airlines especially the lost cost carriers where the profit margins are less, or the small regional prop carriers. Would the cost of de-icing wipe out the profit made on a LCC flight?

Kind regerds

Len

It's a lot. I just dropped over $29,000 about a month ago on one deicing. In the US it's about $14-15 a gallon at most FBO's in the midwest. I'm sure the airlines pay a little less but it's still I would guess over $9-10 a gallon.

For Saab340 in our operation it starts at around 800 € for single step type 1 deicing.

I seriously think I just creamed my pants without any influence from any outside variables.

Time for Ryanair to begin charging "de-ice surcharge" for all flights depart in winter (when de-ice is needed)

I've seen DL quote in literature that it's about $12,000 for a 747.

A lot less. About $5-$6/gal. You figure in the sheer quantitty that they buy and the fact that Delta does their own blending with their own equipment.

The other day an airline I worked with, put in a request with KLM de-icing (which they don't have a contract with). KLM would charge 3000 euro's for deicing the 737...

Nothing's worse then flying the same registration twice, except flying it 4 times..
