United 777-222's - Ship Number Differences?

Hey all,

For any United insiders - I'm looking for the difference in equipment codes on the 777-222ER's. If anyone can please provide some clarification/specifics on the following:

27xx - No cockpit bunks, lower deck FA bunks
28xx - Cockpit bunks (??), FA bunks (??)
20xx - Cockpit bunks, lower deck FA bunks


A340-500: 4 engines 4 long haul. 777-200LR: 2 engines 4 longer haul

No sir, I'm just wondering what the different ship codes designate. The 777-222ER's have ship numbers either 2700, 2800, or 2000, each of which is a different special equipment code. I'm wondering what, exactly, they each mean. As I know they have to do with crew rest facilities aboard, I'm just not exactly sure what's what.

24XX - 8F/40C/220Y - ETOPS, IPTE - 777-222A

27XX - 8F/40C/221Y - ETOPS, IPTE - 777-222ER (last aircraft: 2791 is currently in SFO receiving IPTE mod)

20XX - 8F/40C/220Y - ETOPS, IPTE, Crew Module, Pilot Bunk - 777-200ER

28XX - 8F/40C/220Y - ETOPS, IPTE, Crew Module - 777-200ER

So, I'll be quick as I'm mobile, type from a tablet and don't have info handy.

Those designators have to do with routes (too):

23XX: Europe, South America routes
25XX: Mainland/Hawaii routes
27XX, 29XX (bravo model): ERs
20XX: ER with bunks
28XX ER bravo model with bunks
30XX Former L-CAL birds

I think he's looking for the existence/location of crew (pilot & F/A) rest facilities for each 777 "sub-fleet".

Here's the latest info I have on the "IPTE" reconfigured 777-222ERs:

27xx: Pilot: no bunk, use F-class seats, F/A: 6 bunks in over-cabin rest area at door 3

20xx & 28xx: Pilot: one in bunk, one use F-class seat, F/A: 6 bunks in lower deck module at door 3

FYI, the IPTE 777-200A:

24xx: Pilot: no bunk, use F-class seats, F/A: no bunks, use 6 pax seats just fwd of mid-cabin lavs

On 20xx/28xx, if flight-time under 12 hours, there is are usually not four pilots, so no F-class seat needed.

On 27xx/24xx, if flight-time between 8 and 12 hours, usually three (never two) pilots, so one F-Class seat, but if flight-time over 12 hours there will be four pilots, so two F-Class seats used.

Gawd, I hope they straighten out the current forum problems. I spent effort researching and typing a thorough reply to the OP, but now when I display the thread, only the opening post and one reply from Claybird show up.
