I'll be traveling on DL 1735 from KLAX to PHLI in the next few weeks. Looking at FlightAware for the flight's performance in the last 10 days, I've noticed it performing a zig-zag pattern before approaching the Hawaiian Island chain. This seems to be a daily occurrence. I've provided a link with the latest occurrence:
Does this pattern suggest that this would be some sort of ATC hold? I can imagine this happening every so often, but it seems to be happening day-over-day. Does anyone have insight into what could be the reason of this zig-zag pattern?

If I remember correctly flights to the Hawaiian islands from the mainland all fly to the same waypoints that are about 80 miles from the islands before turning toward the actual destination airport. This turn does not show up well on Flightaware since it is outside radar coverage.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!
