I'm hoping that the vast amount of knowledge on this site can help me with some info about the BA 767-336ER fleet. I know that BA has used the aircraft on both long and short haul flights, but can anyone provide dates for aircraft that have switched between roles? I know that some aircraft have always been long or short haul birds, but equalyy some (including ones that went to QF) have served in both, so any info on dates they served in either role would be appreciated. Also, any info on the configurations, as I know that the long haul birds were three class, then two class, then some get the First flat beds, then they went to three class without First.

Here's some hopefully accurate data on the first three BA 763s:

G-BNWA:
When delivered configured for 247 passengers (C154 / Y83). Initially primarily operated LHR-CDG-LHR and by October 1991 to and from CDG, FRA, FCO, LCA and LIN.

Still configured C154 / Y93 in December 1996 in sub-fleet of eleven similarly configured 763s comprising 'WB, 'WC, 'WD, 'WE, 'WF, 'WK, 'WL, 'WV, 'WW AND 'WY as well as 'WA. All eleven LHR based.

By September 1999 'WA reconfigured for between 229 (C134 / Y95) and 252 (Y252) passengers.

As at 31 July 2010 'WA together with 'WB, 'WX, 'WZ, G-BZHA, 'HB and 'HC in sub-fleet of seven aircraft operating between LHR and ARN, ATH, CDG, DME, FCO, FRA, IST and LCA.

'WA's last revenue flight configured for up to 252 passengers (C134 / Y95 to Y252) IST-LHR (BA677) on 22 September 12.

'WA's first revenue flight configured for up to 259 passengers (C68 / Y179 to Y259) LHR-FRA (BA902) on 8 November 12.



G-BNWB:
As for G-BNWA except :

'WB's last revenue flight configured for up to 252 passengers (C134 / Y95 to Y252) GLA-LHR (BA1697) on 5 November 12.

'WB's first revenue flight configured for up to 259 passengers (C68 / Y179 to Y259) LHR-EDI (BA1434) on 5 December 12.



G-BNWC:
As for G-BNWA up to October 2001. Then:

WFU 27 October 2001 after operating IST-LHR (BA677). Parked LHR

Ferried LHR-MHV (BA9271). Parked

Ferried MHV-LHR (BA9268P). Parked

LHR-MAD (BA456). Returned to service

ATH-LHR (BA633) 14 May 2006. Last revenue flight configured for up to 252 passengers (C134 / Y95 to Y252).

LHR-DTW (BA203) 16 July 2006. First long-haul revenue flight configured for 189 passengers (J24 / W24 / Y141)

If you search by reg on this site then count the two/one windows to the rear of door two. That shows the config, two visible is short haul. It's noticeable some have switched more than once.

I'm sure G-BNWC/D were the original two short haul aircraft that were later converted to long haul during the "dusk" programme. All the aircraft that went to QF were ex short haul.

I'm sure the aircraft that operated MAN-JFK had a unique 2 class configuration until circa 2006/7 specifically for that route and only went to LHR for maintenance.

NWH was the ship which was based at MAN doing the JFK run... It was swapped in an out for maint at LHR on regular shuttle flights...

If memory serves me correctly there was a number of 763 based at LGW, in the days when it was a hub round 1999....

G-BNWE:

As for G-BNWA until:

MAN-LHR (BA1389) 1 June 2000. Last BA revenue flight

RO LHR QF livery 11 June 2000 painted "VH-ZXA" but fuselage registration later taped "G-BNWE"

QF registered VH-ZXA 8 August 2000



G-BNWF:

When delivered (23 June 1990) configured for 194 passengers (F9 / J44 / Y141). Initially operated to Middle East destinations initially AUH. BAH and RUH subsequently expanded to include DOH, JED and KRT

From 27 October 1991 primarily dedicated to serving AUH, BAH, DHA, DXB, JED, KWI, MCT, RUH and THE.

By (when?) 31 December 1996 converted to short-haul configuration and operating in a sub-fleet of eleven 763s based at LHR and configured for 247 passengers (C154 / Y93) - see G-BNWA

LCA-LHR (BA665) 29 September 2000 last BA flight.

RO LHR Qantas livery 9 October 2000 painted "VH-ZXB" but fuselage registration later taped "G-BNWF"

17 November 2000 Qantas registered VH-ZXB.

I found one reference to an early BA 744 configuration of 18 F, 75 J, 277 Y.

F went from 18 to 14 when the original reclining sleeper seats were replaced with flat-bed seat in the mid-1990s. An article about BA's new Club World and World Traveller Plus (premium economy) changes a few years later said J was going from 75 to 70 and Y from 277 to 177, with the addition of 30 of the new premium economy seats. There's also a configuration with fewer J and more Y seats. I'm not sure whether there was more than one configuration on the 744s originally or whether the 18/75/277 was standard on all.
