I'm looking for a career change for me. I seen Southwest has a lot of greet benefits. I'm taking a hit on the salary but in the long run it's way better what I'm making right know. The flying for free is nice but I'm looking more pay and future retirement.

If you're more focused on your pay and retirement you need not join this industry. Personally, if travel isn't near the top of your list don't waste your time. That goes for all of them including my beloved Delta.

It is a great job, however you must go in with the understanding that you WILL be working during the holidays and family events for most of the time. If you can deal with that, then you're good to go. WN is a great company too!

Depends on what you're looking for. If it's travel, it's hard to beat. If it's retirement income, that's a different story. After 11 years of part time work, my retirement income would have been around $87 monthly. Fortunately, I had a real job with a real retirement.
Even though the pay after several years can be decent, there is no guarantee it will stay that way. All it takes is a bankruptcy or renegotiated union contract to change it.

I'm a 14 year Southwest airlines ramp agent. Take the advice of non Southwest employees lightly. Working at Southwest and working a similar position at another company is not a reasonable facsimile.
Here's just a brief rundown. I'll end this year grossing nearly 87k. I have 6 weeks of paid vacation a year, and when I hit the 20 year mark it will be 7 weeks. Me and my wife enjoy the heck out of our flight benefits.
You will definitely have to put time in before you can begin to enjoy the job in the way I've described above though. But the absolute best part of the job that doesn't get mentioned enough is the flexibility. You can work as much or as little as you'd like. You bid/pick your own schedule/hours every 1 or 2 months. You can work overtime, give away or pick up shifts. I have not worked a Christmas or Thanksgiving since my first year on the job. Actually on those two days, by default everyone is scheduled off with pay. You have to sign up to work those days and be payed doubletime. If not enough people sign up then they do mandatory from reverse seniority.
All in all it's an incredible job. I would honestly not rather do anything else for a career.

Not all that much.. I work 2 double shifts a week. And, in fact if I had maintained that for the entire year I would have made over 92k.
It's $26 an hour base. But overtime is paid at time and a half for the first 4 hours and double time for the last 4.5 (it's an 8.5 hour shift). So that's $390 total for the overtime shift. So 2 per week or 4 for the pay period equals $1,560 extra per check, $3,120 extra per month, an extra $37,440 per year. At $26 an hour my base is $54,912. Add $54,912 and $37,440,.. $92,352 So some weeks I did work the OT and some I didn't, and ended up with slightly under 87k.
Also keep in mind I have 6 weeks paid vacation a year, so I'm hardly living at work..
