Inverted Flight Demo

I've heard that someone made an inverted flight demonstration over Seattle, on a 707 or dash 80, years ago. And I guess I've seen a pict of it.

Was it a special plane or did its normal configuration allow such maneuvers?

The Dash 80, flown by Tex Johnston. Boeing management was furious, but "Tex" explained that it was a harmless 1 G manuever which posed no danger to the aircraft.

Captjetblast: FDXmech has it right. "Tex" Johnson, possibly one of the world's great test pilots, performed his acrobatic feat on Aug. 7th, 1955, above a crowd of thousands at the Seafair hydroplane course on Lake Washington. If I remember correctly, he did one roll on one pass, did a 180, and did a second roll on the return pass. Tex Johnson is a member of the National Aviation Hall of Fame. To read about his life, the Smithsonian Institution Press has a biography by Charles Barton. Regards,
