I was wondering if someone would tell me why they do not extend the gear bay doors all the way over the wheels on some of the smaller planes such as this AA CRJ-700?
Is it strictly to save money, or do the exposed wheels on smaller aircraft not cause much drag? The wheels are recessed into the belly of the plane, but I still would think that it would affect the aerodynamics somewhat. Anyone's thoughts on this would be helpful.

Weight, money, smaller parts count, less to break.
It doesn't really effect the aircraft since the mains are so back on the aircraft. They don't break the boundery layer so the drag increase isn't much.
Also it isn't just smaller aircraft that do this. The 737 is the same way.
OBAMA-WORST PRESIDENT EVER....Even SKOORB would be better.
