Back in the day, United Airlines and Pratt & Whitney (a division of United Technologies) were split from the same company, United Aircraft & Transport, which was formed from Boeing Airline & Transport, Pratt & Whitney, Chance Vought, Hamilton, Sikorsky and Standard Steel Propeller (circa 1929)

What is ironic is that United is one of Airbus's biggest customers!
Anyways, I read somewhere that after the United 232 crash, GE tried to place the blame for that onto United's MX procedures. Consequently, they pissed off United, at which time United vowed to never buy another GE product ever again.
