What exactly is St. Elmo's Fire. I have Seen Pictures of it, But do not know what it is.

Technically, it's corona discharge. Object builds up a strong negative charge in relation to surroundings. Electrons literally "leak" off pointy objects, which we see as a purple glow/discharge.
