Hey everyone,

I recently bought some american airliner models from Herpa and noticed that the American flag is printed backwards on the right side of the planes. At first I thought it was a printing mistake. When I looked for photos of the same planes here at airliners.net, I noticed that the flags are printed backwards in the real planes also. Does anyone know why that is? Does this happen only for American planes, or is this an international law? Any info would be great.

PS. Please excuse me if this question has already been asked. I didn't find it in the previous pages.

This has been discussed ad nauseum...

The flag on the right side is reversed to give the same appearance of a flag on a pole; it would appear normally on one side, reversed on the other.

ad nauseum the the nth power. If you see a flag flying in the wind and go around to the other side and look, you'll see the same thing. It is true of any flag that is not symmetrical.

It comes from the etiquette on how to display the US Flag. When displayed on the side of a vehicle, aircraft, etc. The stars are always to be in the front top corner.
