I read a post today that YX (I think that is Midwest Express, but for all I know it could be Aeroflot) would replac etheir DC-9's with 717s. That was a rumor, but it makes sense. I have no idea why AA chose the 737-800 rather than launch a bigger 717 to replace the 727 and MD-80 et cetera.

It is simple really...you could not take a 717 and fly it from ORD-SEA or from BDL-ORD-LAX without a number ot stops in between. Lets just say there is a 717-300 created, pushing 150' in length nose-to-tail. That would still be outclassed in capacity and range by a 738. AA was growing and needed growing plans.
As for YX in 717s...hope to see them flying over the eastside of MKE on approach very soon.
