Hi people,

a few days back I started a topic in the Site Related forum.
Please read about it here: http://www.airliners.net/discussions/site_related/read.main/8191/

So tech's., pilots, fuelers, F/A's etc. etc, give me what you got!  Smile

I start:

FMS:.......................Flight Management System.
ATC........................Air Traffic Control
APU........................Air auxiliary Unit

Aim for the sky.

And now the billion dollar question: why do we need so many acronyms?!

Skyguy11,

Old saying at the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration, so we can add it  Big grin )

"If it doesn't work, rename it. If that doesn't help, the new name isn't long enough."

Those long names are why we have some many acronyms.

BTW: I think we should note company and country specfic acronyms.

At worst, you screw up and die.

Question (which requires an answer before I start tapping away): Are you interested in military TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms... oops, there we go again  Wink/being sarcastic) or only civil? Because we generate about 30 new ones per day... concept studies, you know...

Also, are we allowed slang, such as SNAFU, FUBAR and REMF?

Why don't we just include a link to Pilot's Pocket Decoder? (I own a copy and I'm not even a pilot)

Or how about Pilot's Pocket Handbook?

I think we can skip the slang acronyms to try, hm, to keep down the amount a little.
I will soon take this list and sort it from A-Z.
But I do have a question about one acronym.
STOL.......? Short Take Off....something, or?

Aim for the sky.
