Never heard of it either, but Google brings up Honeywell's webpage so I'm assuming EFD=enhanced flight deck or something with avionics. FlightSafety Boeing also has an MD-90 EFD simulator at LGB...

Honeywell offers a Pilot's Guide to the MD-90 EFD for $60... Smile/happy/getting dizzy

This applies to regional aircraft. but maybe the MD90 was a special retrofit of this EFD (Electronic Flight Display) flightdeck.

I don't like guessing, but there is absoluetly nothing available on the net for this bird...just vague references

Well, I AM referring to the sim at LGB, so perhaps that is what the EFD means.

What do I know? THats' why I am posting here! To learn! LOL Sorry to confuse y'all!

Mirrodie,

No problem!...it's interesting and I probably wasted a good 30 minutes last night trying to find information...and that's ALL i got.

It's weird though that FSB would keep a functioning MD-90EFD sim if it really doesn't exist in the real world...go figure...

Mirrodie: I flew that very sim at LGB (FlightSafety/Alteon).

It's the Saudi Arabian, glass cockpit-fitted MD-90 (very similar cockpit to that of the 717). It's a great sim. If you're thinking about doing it, definitely give it a go.

You can ask Midnightmike about it, he's a member on the forums, that's who I did it through.

Cheers

FSP,

Never even thought about that...makes sense especially since I think Saudi Arabian was the last MD-90 customer..

I am at a loss. Just what information are you looking for? It has been 2+ years since I flew the MD90, but I haven't forgotten it that much.

The "Enhanced Flight Deck" is nothing to write home about. Just one of the first attempts at an all electronic display (i.e. no mechanical guages) cockpit. A MAJOR improvement over the MD80/DC9 engine displays which were grouped mostly on the center instrument panel and thereabouts. The ex-QQ MD90s had the MD87's center instrument panel (non-programable electronic engine instrumentation) while the MD90 sim at LGB has the Saudi configuration which has multiple all-digital CRT/LCD. The sim programing included cockpit setups to simulate the ex-QQ cockpit arrangement (among many available pre-programmed configurations). Since moving to the 737-800 I'd place the MD90 EFD in the almost a relic category. Still prefer the MD90's performance to the 737's fuel sipping efficency though.  Wink/being sarcastic

Captain,

Doesn't the 737NG have great performance in other areas?
