Hi All,

This question relates to the A330-300 and DC10-30 of e.g. Northwest.
1/What is the difference in fuel burn for the A330-300 vs the DC10-30's
that they replace ?
2/What is the max fuel capacity for both types ?
3/What is the fuel burn during take-off phase as against the fuelburn
during cruise ? for both types....

Thanks for any input
Tim

As I calculate it:

----------------------------------DC-10-30----------A330-300
Fuel Capacity (liters)-------138720------------97530
Maximum Pax---------------380---------------440
MTOW---------------------259000------------233000
Range (Max Load)----------12000-------------10400

Liters per km---------------11.56--------------9.38
Liters Per pax/km-----------0.0304-------------0.0213
Per pax 100km-------------3.042105263--------2.131337413

Sorry for the dashes - the only way I can figure to tabulate here.

I know the maximum passenger numbers are a bit nuts but that's what I found as the maximum single class seating, although the A330 must have been calculated with 15" seat pitch.

But, assuming that is correct, the DC-10 will take 1 passenger 100 km on 3.04 litres of fuel. The A330 will take that passenger the same distance with only 2.13 liters - a 30% improvement.

If anyone has better numbers to use please do so - I did this rather in a hurry.

Charles

For future reference, use the "pre-typed language" HTML tags, and it will space the information however you want.

For example, [pre] [/pre], but obviously with < > instead of [ ]  Big grin

Am not at all surprised.
Caledonian operated TriStars with 396 seats (large L4/R4 door), when the maximum capacity allowed is 400 (demonstrated evacuation).

Brit operators have always packed 'em in, sardine style. Personally know of one Brit DC-3 operator (many years ago) who shoe-horned in 44 folks.

If they didn't know each other when then started the flight...they sure did when it finished.

The bucket & spade brigade don't care...cheap flights/accomodation is worth the price. And many times it is.
