Frangible Fitting

Can Anyone explain the working of the Frangible Fitting located in the Wheel well of B737NGs.

The frangable fitting is there to prevent the rear spar being ripped open in an accident. The fitting will fail first and thus prevent a fuel spill.

It just a designed weak point in the structure that breaks at a predetermined load

VC-10 i am not sure you ansvered this one corect.

"The frangible fitting removes up pressure from the main landing gear actuator when a dameged, spinning tire moves into the main gear wheel well. This prevents damage to compenents in the wheel well."
this was taken directly out of a 737 book

it is just a small fitting installed right besides where the wheel moves into the wheel well. the fitting is conected to the up presure line to the main gear actuater, and if a spinning dameged tire hits it, it will bleed the press to the actuator and a fuse will close, and the gear will stay down.
