DC-10-30 Vs DC-10-40

Aside from GE engines vs P&W engines, what are the main differences between the two types.

Also, I have heard the -40 referred to as much less reliable than the -30. Why is this.

The 40 did not have the range of the 30 either, plus the 30 had much higher take off weight.
