Certain Position On A Wing Whereby...

I was once told that there is a certain point close to the fuselage on the wing whereby if you mount an engine at that point, the torque on the fuselage due to the engine is greater than it would be further out from that point where the lever arm is greater.

This is counterintuitive to me, can anbody either confirm or debunk this claim?

You must have heard wrong or something, because that just can't be. Like you said, torque equals force multiplied by the lever arm, so what what you were told is completely unfounded...
