What Is The Deal With The Extended Wing Fairings?

Hey guys, was looking over some photos of two Hellenic Air Force ERJ-135's and noticed a big diffrence.

Notice the increased length of the fairing. On the latter example it runs all the way up to the cabin door!

So what is the deal with it? More gas, Bigger cargo hold? Or is it just there for Aerodynamics or looks?

The second lot is the ERJ135 Legacy - the business jet version of the 135, with added fuel tanks and intercontinental range. I imagine that means those fairings hold fuel.

Addendum: This is the Legacy Executive (with the added fuel tanks). There is also a Legacy Corporate Shuttle (with less range and no added fuel tanks.
