A question regarding noise regulations:

If the BAC 1-11 and Fokker F28 are not only of the same era but also powered by virtually the same engines, the Rolls Royce Spey, how is it that there are less than five passenger-configured 1-11s still flying in the world (and all but one ROMBAC-built) against almost 100 F28s? Surely, the noise regulations would apply equally to both aircraft, or is the F28 substantially quieter than its British counterpart?

As i recall it has something to do with the F.28 being light enough to fall under the lower size limit that governs airliner noise levels.

Also the F.28 uses the Spey 555-15 "Spey Junior" vs the BAC 1-11s Spey 512 family, very possible they have a lower noise signature.

Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
