Date: 16NOV2007
Route: DEN-CLE
Airline: UAX(Skywest)
Flight: 6630
Seat: 1C First ExPlus
Plane: N710SK CRJ-600
Load: 100%F 100%Y

This is my first trip report so here it goes

This day my sister and I were going to Ohio to visit my family for Thanksgiving so the day started with my mom dropping us off at the airport by the BA counter and being checked in we headed for the A Concourse bridge to go through security (yes UA is not on the "A" but we have found out that buy going over the bridge and then down to the trains you can save a lot of time instead of going through the main security). We went down the elevator by the CO lounge then on the train to the B concourse and down to the new UAX terminal which is nice but not a lot of seats but the nice part is that there are many power ports to charge your laptop. Having extra time I took out my laptop and watched a DVD until the plane was ready to depart. But that was extra today because the plane has a mechanical in SLC where it was coming from, so it was delayed for 45 minutes. Our names were finally called five minutes before departure, and we got the last two seats one in First and one Coach so we flipped a coin and I got lucky and got First, as soon as we were seated the plane was pushed back and we started our taxi to the active and before we knew it we were in the air, after we leveled off we I took out my laptop and watched RENT, then soon after I was offered a drink and I took a coke, one thing I hate about UAX First is in first your drink is in plastic and I hate plastic I watched some more of my movie then about two hours in to the flight I was offered a snack box which also is a disappointment compared to what it used to be when ExPlus first came out as soon as I knew it we were on our approach to CLE it was a murky day in CLE but the approach was very quick and the landing smooth so we then we had a quick taxi to the gate.

Overall impressions: UAX is a real disappointment to UA and their first class product is not up to UA standards.

Route: DTW-DEN
Date 23NOV2007
Airline: United Airlines
Flight: 579
Plane N919UA Boeing 737-522
Seat: 2A United First
Load Factor 50%F 100%Y

After getting up at 5am to get to DTW on time we drove to DTW to the OLD smith Terminal 1.5 hour prior to departure expecting heavy Thanksgiving loads where we went to the UA check in counter and after a quick bag check we went to security where there was no one and we went to the concourse and after showing up early we were curbside to gate in 15 minutes so we waited around the very old smith terminal and when we got our seats 2A/2B 25 minutes prior to departure showing me that there were very light loads compared to coming out. We went on the plane when F was called and there were only 2 others in the F cabin and I was offered Orange Juice. After a pushing back we headed to runway 22L and waiting for two aircraft to take off in front of us we were cleared for take off and we took off in about 3/4 of the runway we were in the air.
After we about 25 minutes the F/A came around with breakfast, it was a bowl of cereal (still in box) a warm bowl of fruit and a very hard croissant, the breakfast was very bad for UA the worst I have ever had in F. After that with no IFE (or even overhead screens) for video I took out my laptop and started to watch a movie and then after an uneventful flight we landed in DEN 15 minutes early.

Overall impressions it was very bad for UA if this was my first time flying them I would never fly them again
sorry no pics for DEN-CLE and about the bad pic quality

No such thing, sir  Wink

CRJ-700 is what you meant.

Quoting N104UA (Thread starter):

It's not supposed to be. That's why it's labeled as "ExPlus". It's an improvement from the standard regional jets, but it's not a full first-class service.

Quoting N104UA (Thread starter):

The 319/320 and 757's are catered with nicer food, as they have larger first class galleys. The 733/735 fleet has incredibly small FC galleys, and often have much smaller / less food than the larger domestic planes.

Quoting N104UA (Thread starter):
if this was my first time flying them I would never fly them again

You expect way too much as a nonrev!!! Besides, you're pretty lucky to get First Class on the 733/735. I haven't got it once yet, with only 8 seats up front it's usually fairly difficult.

Keep in mind that UA dictates and pays for the level of service provided by the express carrier. I suggest you learn a little more about airline economics and contracts before being so critical of the service provided to you as a non-rev.

Yes but i know that there were 2 paying customers in F not upgrades and they had the same.

Also, you could have been on an ex-Shuttle by United plane with no ovens. Therefore, no eggs and sausage and the like.

Quoting N104UA (Reply 3):

Which only means you'll be #1 on the DM list if traveling as BP8A on mainline flights. It won't matter much if you try to get first on DEN-SFO or DEN-ORD on a 733/735  Wink

I didn't even think of that, good catch.

The ex-Shuttle birds also have the half forward galleys, even further reducing what they can serve.

N104UA,
i don't know if you non rev alot but that is typical for uax service, the pasta crap that is served out those boxes is pathetic to say the least and nothing to eat is better than what united has the uax carriers serving. on the flip side, the uax service/ride is miles ahead of the erj145 that co is flying out of d.i.a. to cle.

Transpac787,
united does market uax first class as the same as mainline first. or they advertise that way.

Negative. United First is a registered trademark on their product on their mainline aircraft only. It includes, pre-departure drink service, complimentary movies domestically, among other things also includes meals served on flights longer than 2 hours.

Explus is a registered trademark on their regional jets only, that including first class. The only thing special about the exPlus first is they get meals on flights over 2.5 hours.

------------------------------

You are a non-rev. Lighten up! Enjoy the free ride.

I am not going to rag on you in terms of your grammar, because it was horrid, but try using periods at least once in a while.  Smile

As for IFE, no 735 in the UA fleet has any sort of screened IFE, it is audio only.

Free if you'd consider it's coming out of the OP's parent's payroll deduct, not his own  Wink

Just recently the nonrev charges at UA changed, where first class on UAX costs nonrevs now....it used to be free. First class on mainline has always been charged, and that hasn't changed.

733's too, they're nearly identical in cabin configuration at UA, just the 735 is shorter (obviously).

No kidding. I'm happy with a middle seat in coach or even jumpseat when I'm flying non-rev. I haven't pulled off first on UA as a non-rev in ages.

Just one more reason why I love DL. We pay a certain amount at the beginning of our DOE year and thats it. First, coach, Business, whatever is available and you are on the list they will put you there at no charge for the seat and no payroll deduct (except international...arrival/departure taxes, etc).

I thought it changed for you guys recently?? I heard that you now pay a flat fee per segment and in addition to that a fee per mile.... the way it used to be done at UA. I know a couple folks who work for DL and they were wicked pissed off because of that stunt.

That is something for an EV non rev buddy passes or something like that flying on DL metal IIRC. I am not for sure, but I've flown close to 25k miles just as of October, November, December and a few flights in January already and I have yet to be charged anything. Except for my yearly flat fee, thats all I get charged.

Short but interesting, mainly from the negative aspect.

Quoting N104UA (Thread starter):
UAX is a real disappointment to UA and their first class product is not up to UA standards.

- Don't forget it is an Express flight and not mainline.

Quoting N104UA (Thread starter):
Plane: N710SK CRJ-600

- I thinkl you mean -700.

Given your user name, a UA 744 reg, you are very negative to UA and UA Express in this flight, given you are a no-rev, how can you complain?

Be grateful, I would be.

Rgds

Mark
