Before the trip: My sister and her friends were going to FLL on AA, so me and my family wanted to go somewhere. We looked at cities in Florida but it was too expensive. Then we looked at WN's fares out of MSP. The cheapest fares were $35 each way so we booked the trip.

April 6: MSP-MDW

Aircraft: 737-700 (Canyon Blue colors)

Flight: 2472

Reg: N790SW

Schedule departure Time: 1:00 p.m.

Actual: around 2:00 p.m.

Scheduled arrival time: 2:20 p.m.

Actual: around 3:00 p.m.

Departure gate: H7

Arrival gate: unknown (it was somewhere in the C concourse)

Load factor: around 95%

My family and I arrived at the Humphrey Terminal very early. Check-in and security was fast and we had tons of time to spend at the terminal. Surprisingly there were no SY 738s at the gates. There was only a WN 737 (not our plane) going to MDW, a YX CRJ to MKE, and a FL 737 to ATL. Soon all those flights left and waiting for our flight was a little boring. The gate agent announced that our flight would be one hour late. I walked around the terminal and soon a couple flights came in. Another YX CRJ from MKE and another FL 737 from ATL. Then finally our flight arrived. Our flight did HOU-MDW-MSP-MDW-Harlingen (correct me if I'm wrong). We were in group B for boarding but we still found three empty seats so we could sit next to each other. We were right behind the right wing. One of the flight attendants seemed like she didn't want to work today, but at least she wasn't cranky. We took off on runway 12R/30L over the dog park. Our cruising altitude would be 27,000 feet. We flew over MSN. The flight was bumpy and the seat belt sign was turned off for only a few minutes. Drinks/snacks were still served. I had a Dr. Pepper. I listened to a few songs on my I Pod and then we began descent into MDW. The descent was probably slow since my ears never popped. There was a small snow storm in Chicago and the landing was very bumpy.

April 9: MDW-MSP

Aircraft: 737-700 (Canyon Blue colors)

Flight: 566

Reg: N272WN

Scheduled departure time: 1:00 p.m.

Actual: around 1:00 p.m.

Scheduled arrival time: 2:20 p.m.

Actual: 2:10 p.m.

Departure gate: B1

Arrival gate: H7

Load factor: around 95%

We took the train to MDW and arrived early enough to eat because we didn't have any breakfast. Check-in and security was fast. For breakfast/lunch I had a sausage pizza and Coke from a pizza restaurant. Right after we finished eating it was time to board. We were in group A. Our flight was doing PHL-MDW-MSP. We sat right behind the right wing. The take-off was bumpy. We flew over ORD, RFD, MKE, MSN, and RST on our way to MSP. The seat belt sign was only off for a couple minutes because the flight was turbulent the whole time. Flight attendants still served snacks/drinks. I had a Dr. Pepper and Coke. During the flight I read my airline magazines the I bought at a book store in Chicago. Descent was slow again and we made a smooth landing on runway 12R/30L over the Minnesota River. I saw the bowling shoe color NW 742 at a gate at the F concourse while landing but I didn't get any pictures of it. While at the terminal I walked around a little bit and I saw SY's leased 738 PH-HZI which I either flew to PIE or flew back to MSP from PIE.

Non-aviation part, trip in Chicago: My family and I went to the observation deck of the Sears Tower, Navy Pier, O' Hares Hilton Hotel, Millennium Park, John Hancock Center, and Greek Town. Since the Olympic Committee was in town some buildings one night at lights saying 2016 Chicago, there was a lot of advertisement for support of the 2016 Olympics being in Chicago. We used the L (Chicago's subway) most of the time. It could use a modernization and maybe offer express service from downtown to MDW and ORD. We stayed at two hotels, the Congress Plaza Hotel in downtown and the Hilton at ORD. I saw many airlines at ORD that I've never seen before, LH, JL, RJ, Eva Air Cargo, LH Cargo, China Airlines Cargo, Singapore Cargo, Turkish, ANA, Asiana, SAS, IB, Cathay Pacific Cargo, and Shanghai Airlines Cargo.

I hope someday I'll go back to Chicago, with WN's MSP-MDW service that is a strong possibility.

I hope my sister is having fun in FLL.  Yeah sure Hopefully I'll get to Florida next year.

I'll try to post pictures of the trip soon.

saw the bowling shoe color NW 742

Is this the only one left in bowling shoe livery?

Quoting Linglesou (Reply 1):

Its the only bowling shoe 742, but there are still a few CRJs, DC-9s, and A319s/320s in the bowling shoe colors.

Sorry it took awhile but finally here are some of the pictures.

WN flight MSP-MDW:

WN flight MDW-MSP:

Some of the foreign flight action at ORD:

JL 744, I'm assuming arriving from NRT:

China Airlines Cargo 744F (this plane aborted landing for some reason but landed at ORD second time landing)

ANA 773 at MSP... just kidding. ANA 773 at ORD. This plane taxied to Terminal 5 but then about 20 minutes later it taxied to one of the domestic terminals (I think either Terminal 1 or 2).

I'll post pictures of downtown Chicago later.
