Introduction

I had mixed feelings before this flight. I was looking forward to see someone in Singapore, but at the same time I couldn't bear to leave the country. But the feeling of seeing that someone special made me in the end look forward to going home. I had bad experiences on my previous flights with Etihad Airways, so I wasn't too looking forward to the service. I checked with the website, this flight was served by A6-EHJ, 3 days consecutive !! What was the odds of EHJ doing my flight for the 4th time! I was not very optimistic about it. Anyway, I flew in to London from Madrid by BA8752, BA Cityflyer ERJ190. As the flight was in the evening, I went to my sister's place to rest and head towards my favourite shopping mall, Westfield Mall at Shephard's bush for some last minute shopping. Time passed by quickly, soon I went back to my sister's place, pack my laggage , bid farewell and made my way to the airport.

Before boarding

I did a check on my handphone on the plane that I was flying on. I was slightly disappointed to see that it was A6-EHA, A345 that was operating on my flight instead. Well, at least its not A332 that I would get to fly on, on the AUH-SIN sector. As usual, I did some exploring after a 15 minutes wait for check-in. Apparently a couple in front had some problems with their documentation, thus took a long time before they were done. This was my first time departing from terminal 4, and I took some photos along the way, please enjoy.

On Board

I didn't expect the gate to open so early. When I reached the gate, most passengers had already boarded the plane. So making my way the aerobridge quickly and went to my seat. The PTVs on my seats were flickering, along with my neighbours and the row in front. It was quite irritating, and the worst thing is we highlighted this to one of cabin crews, who gave empty promises, but another nice crew, Kaiser who overheard our conversation, came over and offered her help which we greatly accepted, by allocating us to other seats. Kudos to her, she was one of the best crews on board, very friendly and helpful throughout the flight. Before I continue further, please enjoy these photos!

More about the flight

The service on board was much better than my previous. Only one of them was unimpressive, that one that kept empty promises. The rest of the crews were friendly especially Kaiser whom is the best of the lot. Anyway, the PTV system on board this flight was similar to the A330s. The PTVs are quite user-friendly and in my opinion, better than SQ's. Not only there is the touchscreen navigation, there are also camera views and easier to navigate using the control. No problem using the system, and I realized only in my next flight was that, they were in a midst of replacing these sets with a newer one which included portable usb connectors. Food was quite ok, I remembered eating it quite quickly because I was quite hungry. As for the flight, it was relatively smooth , just a few bumps after take off from LHR.

Conclusion

This flight was much better than the previous 2 flights. In fact, this was the best flight I had among the 4. Do check out my AUH-SIN sector, in my next report. As mentioned before, only 1 black sheep on board this flight, the rest were ok. Comfortable and quiet cabin, typical of Airbus and the 2-4-2 seating configuration was great. The reassigned seat, I was not seating withanyone which was also another big plus. The last time I flew on the A345 was on SQ's promotion flight,to Bangkok. This was definitely a welcome addition to my flight log. However, I would like to fly another A340-600, perhaps with Thai the next time round.

Introduction

I don't have that many photos in this sector, but this sector was significant because this aircraft featured the new economy class seats! Do take a look at this and my previous trip reports on Etihad for comparisons. Time flies when you are having fun! This was my last sector, and to get to fly my favourite A330-200, I can't ask for more? At this point of typing, I just want to thank God for giving me this chance of flying! Its not about boasting to others, its all about sharing one's experience. I find that writing these reports give me a new dimension of life, inspired by other flight bloggers. Anyway, back to the trip. I had about 3 hours of layover, so went to do a bit of walking and plane spotting as well. The airport was clean and small, going anywhere was accessible, no problem at all. The only troublesome part was that even though you are transiting, you still have to undergo another round of security, and they are quite strict.

On board

Service on this flight wasn't as good as the previous, but it was still ok. The crews were pretty chatty with their own at the rear and their voices were quite loud. At least there were smiles on their faces when served, and drinks were sent to me promptly. I was surprised when I saw the updated seats when I stepped onto the Y class section, it was an obvious change to the old cabin. About the seats, I seem to prefer the older ones, more comfortable on the older ones than this one, but then its still good enough for me for this 7 hours of flying. The flight was absolutely full that I had to settle for aisle seat this time. There were many students for Dubai, going to Brisbane for overseas exchange. I wondered why didn't they fly direct with Emirates, it must have been the price factor for the school. Fortunately for me, these kids were pretty alright, didn't make much noise. Anyway, the flight was pretty turbulent through out, lots of rattles throughout especially near KL, it was quite rough at that period. Not long after, the plane touched down safely at Changi Airport, 20R. That meant the end of the holiday trip for me.

Conclusion

Definitely mixed feelings about this airline. My outbound trip was a big disappointment, but the inbound was certainly much better especially the first sector. I have since sent a complaint to the airline about the bad experience I had, the service was excellent. I received a prompt reply and a compensation of 15K for mileage, which was quite good. Would I fly with this airline again? Why not? The comfort on board their Economy class is great, seat pitch was slightly tight though and perhaps if you have a wider shoulders, you may find the seat narrow for your liking.

Looks like EY were up to their usual standards generally. Nice to see that they still have menus in Y. The food, however, looks a bit awful. I guess it tasted better than it looked!

Great report! Having flown on EY recently on the LHR-AUH route, its pretty much a similar experience to my flight.
Though I do wish they review their menu options, as the last few flights I had from LHR-AUH and MAN-AUH had some hideous food options!
Overall, good product and service (except on their 777s which they have refitted in a 3-4-3 configuration recently)!

It's nice to see your return journey trip report! It is a pity that A6-EHJ was not allocated to your route that day, even though it had been in the previous few days.

Did you not get an amenity kit? It's the all black case with just socks, eye shades, tooth brush and tooth paste. The ones I got on my first flight were a nice yellow and had the Etihad logo on it. I could not tell if it is was inside your plastic wrap. Also missing is the small round pillow, which comes in a dark brown casing.

Isn't it nice how Etihad serves the dessert through a second run! I noticed they are still serving the Apple Crumble. Though it would have gone well with the hot chocolate rather than the green tea!
