Greetings.

In this report I will cover my trip to Mosjøen, a small town in Northern Norway. This was done about four and a half years ago. I flew with SAS from Haugesund, a town on the West Coast, to Oslo, the capital of Norway, and then north to Bodø. Then furthermore with Widerøe to Mosjøen with a short stop in Sandnessjøen. The return was as following: Mosjøen-Namsos-Trondheim-Oslo-Haugesund.

SAS had no repainted the old Braathens planes at the time.
I can remember flying with this 734 back when it flying for Braathens.

Wow is all I have to say enhd1432! Loved this! Norway is one of my favourite countries, some of the scenery from your pics are just mind blowing. And good to see Widerøe again, saw them in BGO last year when I went to Norway for the first time. I also loved the cockpit pics, your very lucky to get the unique experience of riding in the jumpseat. Looking forward to the rest...

Well, it goes without saying that this was a rather interesting report. The pictures were scintillating, and one can't help but feel a little envious about all of that time in the jumpseat! I'm not particularly sure that I (or anyone else) could wait four years for the next report, so we hope to see some more stuff soon!

Hiya,

What a very nice and interesting report! Norway is just so photogenic, especially when viewed through the cockpit window.

Funny pictures of the action at the Mosjoen airport.

Do you work for Wideroe by any chance? Their reservations and ticket sales operation is based in Mosjoen - have chatted with those nice folks many time over rebooking issues  .

I've been toying around the idea of getting the Wideroe unlimited flight pass for next summer - I even patched together an itinerary which would have me flying through all the airports with WF service within a week - but that's before schedule changes so let's see...

Haugesund Aiport. 500.000+ pax a year

Yeah, this is what keeps amazing me about Norway - no matter how small a town is they still manage to have a very busy airport. In Finland I think only three airports manage to pass half a million passengers per year, in Norway there must be at least ten... Then again the rugged landscape certainly explains it, I was quite amazed to see a lot of flights between BGO and SVG which are so nearby (but with HAU in-between  ), but then I took a look at the map to see that to drive you'd have to make a helluva detour...

Anyway thanks for posting, hope to see more from you!

Great photos. Norways is so scenic, especially with the snow on the mountains. Great that yiou managed to get a seat in the cockpit.

God kveld Nikolay

Wonderful trip report and fantastic photos, thank you for sharing!

I myself have visited Haugesund twice, as well as Tromso and it has to be said Norway is a stunning place to visit, one of my favourite places on earth, in both summer and winter.

Widerøe offer a great service to the communities in the rural north of the country, and have to have some of the most skilled pilots in the world.

Ha det!
Noel

No kidding! Even when I worked for an airline I never could get in the jumpseat.

As someone who's flown many miles in Alaska I appreciated the comparison. The OP did a wonderful job and talked his way into places I never would have considered asking to be. The airports really aren't that different, but the towns around them certainly are.

Interestingly enough I fly 734 or 734-combi's around Alaska almost everytime I visit the north since the 732-combi's were retired from AS fleet.

Really nice report and amazing photos of the beautiful Norwegian landscape. Can’t find much better routes to have the opportunity to ride on a jumpseat.

Thanks!
To sit in the jumpseat with a norwegian airline is quite possible, and has been so even the last ten years. Neither the government nor the airlines have any regulations against it.

Yeah, the only alternative to to flying is to drive or take the bus, and that takes 5.5 hours and costs 80 dollars, while a ticket with norwegian costs as low as 45 dollars (plus tickets for the airport bus.) And the flight time is 35 min.

Hi enhd1432,

Nice report and great to see some many pictures taken up front in the cocokpit! I love the photos of the beautiful Norwegian scenery, but my favouite is the one taken on approach into Bodo, just stunning.

Thanks for posting & happy flying
