Introduction

I postponed my date twice, I wss supposed to have flown back on the 29th November, which was to be operated by the same aircraft I had flown on my first leg, B-16710, so it was a relief not to have gotten the same aircraft. I changed it to Friday, which was operated by B-16716. I decided to changed to Sunday so that I can spend some time with my new friends and it was a good decision. When I booked my seat, I had to settle for 23F which was in the middle section of the plane, and I didn't like it. Somehow I knew that seats were blocked until the day itself and I was proven right. I changed it to a window seat 24K and was hoping that no one was beside me.

The hostel I stayed in, was excellent (Taipei Hostel)

On board

Boarding was fast, as usual the announcements were made for business class to board first, followed by Elite Class and then Economy class. I would recommend the aisle seat at the sides of the cabin as there is more legroom space if the flight is full. Sitting at the window seat can be a problem due to the PTV box obstructing part of your legroom space which can be uncomfortable for long haul flights. Seat wise, its comfortable. Disappointing part was there was someone sitting beside me. Fortunately for me, Row 21 J and K were empty, so I shifted there. Due to past experience, I decided to ask one of the crews whether it was ok to move over, she gave me a green light without much emotion.

Service

What can I say? I was expecting a better experience with them after my last one, but boy I was wrong, service was equally as bad as my (SIN-TPE sector),however a few of them were at least smiling. Even so, service was definitely not the type you expect with SQ, MH or CX. I had asked for an orange juice, the crew told me to hold on but she didn't come back with my drink, minus point for that. While serving food, crew seem to be in a hurry to just get it done and over with and for the rest of the flight, they disappointed behind the crew's area presumably chatting away. Nothing else worth mentioning about them. Later on, I asked a crew whether do they stay on the return flight or stay for a night, she mentioned to me a night, but in a very half-hearted manner.Rating: 5/10

Food

>

I was expecting bee hoon to be dipped in sauce, but I was wrong. It was tasteless, ended up eating the meat only. The prawn salad tasted wierd, the fruits had a wierd taste, only the apple tart made the grade. Food: 4/10 (Bad)

Conclusion

Is it worth paying for the trip with EVA Air? If you only care for comfort, I think its worth paying for it, only if you choose the aisle seat at the side rows of the plane. If you are into food and service, they are disappointing to be honest especially on SIN-TPE-SIN sector. Its no excuse from the kind of crappy service on this relatively short flight and further more they get to rest a night in SIN. Is it really so hard to put in some effort to make the passengers comfortable? That's what they sign up to do just that? The only thing that will keep me flying with them is the Elite Class, reasonable airfare price and mileage points. Hopefully it will be more than that when I fly with them again.

Hi Charles !

Another nice report and good that you changed the return flight so that you got to fly on a different registration.

Too bad the flight was about the same as going but that's to be expected. At least you got to try a new airline and fly on a 777!

Hi Charles,

Nice Trippie...

Was contemplating BR between AMS-BKK and back, but after reading your TR, I guess I try CI instead: at least the catering is far better

Cheers,

Definitely, flying the 777 was great especially hearing the GE90 roaring ! Lovely sound.

Yeah, and also the service is better too.

I am now trying to figure out which airline to take me back to TPE in March.

SQ, BR or CI.

Should I give CI a try, fly with BR again or fly SQ's A330 for the first time? BR's big advantages are earning the miles and flying on Elite class which is similar to CI's economy and cheaper than SQ's economy. CI is a new airline to me and also the A330 is my current favourite. SQ's A330 is new to me.

What do you guys think?

Forgot to add in my videos !

Hi Charles !

I've heard that CI has very little legroom on their 744s; not sure if that's true for the A330 as well.

Think I either go for SQ or CI A330 this time round, SQ is offering a good price of S$500 plus if the offer still continue in Jan, they get my money.

Did you have to pay to change the date ?

Was the 77W you flew back to SIN with 36J or 24J seats ?

Apparently all those working at BR were all rejected by CI at least once

I flew them to TPE on 1 Dec 2011 on 74M and back to HKG 5 days later on 74M again. The service is definitely not something i'd expect from a Taiwanese carrier. They weren't rude or did not smile at all but they definitely weren't good either. Some of the cabin crews even appeared impatient. In general, EVA Air doesn't feel like a Taiwanese company at all. The Taiwanese i know are very polite, friendly and hospitable.

Anyway, i arrived at Taoyuan Airport at 7.30am a few days ago to catch my flight to Hong Kong and they offered to change my flight to the earlier one at 8.15am (was supposed to be on the 10.15am flight operated by 332 to HKG) at no extra charge. That surely was very kind of them as i was travelling on a deeply discounted ticket. I gladly accepted the offer so that i can spend more time at HKIA before catching my next Royal Brunei Airlines flight to BWN later that day at 2.40pm.

Hi 9V-SVC,

Nice TR!

I remember flying on EVA eight years ago, and they were decent back then! I guess standards fall after a period of time. Pity that the service was so bad. I just arrived in TPE two days ago, the EVA Air ground staff are nice and hospitable, like most Taiwanese! Wonder why their air counterparts aren't as friendly as them.
