I will be in AMS in a couple weeks for a 9 hour layover...do I have time to go into Amsterdam and wander and get back in time for my next flight? What is the best way to get in and out of town quickly? I will be there during the daytime. Thanks for any help.

You might try asking this question in Civil Aviation forum where it would be more appropriate.
This forum is used for trip reports posted after the trip. Plus, a lot more people visit the Civil Aviation forum who would be better capable to answer this question.

Get the train. V quick, costs about £5 each way and stops at the main railway station which is in the heart of Amsterdam. A nine hour stop should give you a good 5 hours in Amsterdam -plenty of time to see the sights and what sights they are!.

What a coincidence! I was going to ask the same question. I will traveling to Montreal and have a stop in Amsterdam for about 8 hours. I cannot wait to see the Red District.
If you come before 3 August please post your impressions and suggestions.
Thank you all for your info
