Background of my trip:
This trip basically resulted in me having to travel all the way to Marrakech in Morocco to attend an annual conference related to one of my businesses. However as all my trip I make overseas are via KUL by means of MH, I will cut it short and not post any pics for this sector and also the return KUL to CGK route. But I will still post pictures of the food (that is if I am eating!) And maybe in the near future when MH upgrades it’s a/c or inflight produc, I will post some more pics, but for those of you wanting to see pics for this similar leg, you can click on the shortcut at the end of this TR for my older TR’s. By the way, the wife followed again as this trip will result in a 2 day stop in Paris….oh well, there goes my wallet, contributing to the French economy!
As usual, being a working day, I left home pretty late. Plus it being a Friday, traffic was chaotic at best! I actually arrived at the airport with 35mins to spare, but guess what, when I got to the check in, was told that my flight was delayed till 20000hrs. Oh well, at least it still gave me time to head over to Starbuck for a free snack and drink (Available only at CGK Starbucks for ANZ Gold & Platinum card members). After that, I then proceeded to the lounge which is of course a common use lounge in Jakarta. However, I do not really like the lounge which MH uses, so I went to another lounge instead (usually used my Etihad & Emirates to name a few) CGK airport needs a desperate overhaul both land and airside IMHO!

9M-MKD ready to take me to KUL
We headed to the gate about 5 mins before they commenced boarding and was as usual warmly welcomed aboard by the f/a’s who also apologized non-stop for the resulting delay due to some operational issues in KUL. The flight went by in a flash and catering was just average. All in all, its another fabulous flight by MH thanks to the excellent inflight service provided!

After our late arrival into KUL the night before, we then met up with friends and went for supper, by the time we checked in was 0200hrs! Anyhow, it was another good nights sleep at the Westin KL. The rest of the day before the flight was spent meeting up with old friends and in the late afternoon, they dropped us of at the KL Sentral station to catch the express train to KLIA airport. Check in at the TG business class counter at KLIA was really slow! They had some problems with the boarding pass printer! After that problem was sorted out, everything else up till the boarding was a breeze.

But seriously, TG’s Royal Silk Lounge at KLIA really needs a refit!
My ride today is another B772 refit, I have yet to get on board TG’s new B772er. Looks like another full flight to BKK in both J and Y as I guess most of the pax are onto connecting flights out of BKK. Another average regional J service by TG which IMO is much LOWER standard than MH (which I think even rivals or better than that of SQ). Really still can’t understand why TG regional J service is much worse than their long distance flights.
We spent most of our time in the F lounge at BKK which is truly one of the best F lounges in the world. I manage to take a nice shower and then just killed time by walking around the duty free area before going back to the lounge to relax before our personal assistant picked us up to escort us to the gate.
Royal First Class Lounge
Being in F, we were naturally the last to board together with all the F passengers. My seat today is 3A. Which is a first for me as usually my seat of choice is 1A, however as my wife was with me, I had to seat in 3A so that I am closer to her. Oh well, life is such where you can’t always get things done your way, especially if the wife is involved! F is 100% full today, same for J and Y. The food and inflight service is truly exceptional on this flight and I was personally attended to by f/a Anna. After supper I manage to sleep most of the way to CDG and woke up 2 hrs before landing. Although there was lots of turbulence on the way, the overall flight and experience is just pure excellent!
My own little haven, F section on TG B744
No complains about legroom

My colleagues arrived on the new SQ B773er 10 mins before me
Load: F 100%, J 100%, Y 100%
After getting out of CDG, it was a mad rush to meet up with my other colleagues who flew in on the SQ flight which arrived 10 mins earlier. After all of us got our luggage, we went curbside to meet up with out pre-arranged transport to take us to Orly airport for our connecting flight to Marrakech. As it was a Sunday, traffic was a breeze and we arrived at Orly with 2 hours to spare! The airport is really old but still has a nice ambience to it so passing our time was not really a problem.
Tarmac & Airport scenes at ORY
When boarding came, we went on board, nice friendly greeting was conveyed to us and we were showed our seats. This A320 is still in relatively good condition and seats are pretty comfy, better than LH on its regional J. But I have to mention the service which is much better than I expected. Overall it was a good experience on AF, looking forward to my return leg!
After 3 days of conference in Marrakech, its time to go back to Paris. Marrakech is a nice a mystical place, but seriously its not my cup of tea! The airport is really tiny, IMO its even worse than some of the smaller airports in Indonesia! The check in staff were pretty polite, but the custom’s official was a whole different story, but not to worry folks, being aggressive me, at the end of the experience, the customs official was regretting he even tried to be fussy and problematic towards me! There is no lounge or anything for that fact in this airport, although there are works going on to built extensions to the current terminal.

Walking to board F-GHQG
Finally I am aboard and on my way to Paris. Nice and pleasant greeting as usual upon boarding, with the captain even greeting us atop the stairs. This flight was full in both classes with only 2 empty seats in J. Overall another nice flight with AF, but really bad inflight catering this time round though.
Just after take off
This meal was not that good, but still edible
J Cabin on AF A320, no IFE, so I just have to make do with my own laptop and DVD’s
Actually legroom in J is better than what this pic shows!
After 2 days of generously donating to the French economy, its time to go. I planned the day perfectly, wake up at 0800hrs, get breakfast at the Champs Eleyees, and then back at the hotel to relax before leaving at 1015 for my 1345 flight. But being me, I woke up at 0930, had to rush to wash up and pack then ran to the Champs Eleyees, grabbed a quick bite, and then back to the hotel, all in 25mins flat, wife was not too impress with me indeed (she did try to wake me up earlier!) When we got o the airport, check in was surprisingly quick, so to for the VAT refund and customs stamp, in less than 30mins, we were already at the AF lounge (used by TG). Nothing great about the lounge at CDG, but at least its comfortable and when boarding came we were escorted to the gate.
Escalators at CDG
Slight delay at the gate before boarding due to the fact that there was a technical glitch with the AVOD, NO!!!!! I will surely die if AVOD was not working. After 20mins, boarding commenced and apparently they manage to sort out the AVOD problem (fingers crossed!) Surprisingly it was a light load today. F was 60% full so we got even better attention and service from the cabin crew. This is actually my 1st time on HS-TGM. For some reason, I always get TGP the most on my flights. And this is also one of the rare times whereby F is not 100% full. The flight was relatively smooth, but for some reason, I couldn’t really sleep and ended up watching 3 movies. We arrived in BKK way ahead of schedule and I must say I really love F service in TG.
Load: F 70%, J 60%, Y 70%
Arrived pretty tired due to my lack of sleep, after getting off the plane, we were escorted by the buggy service to the F lounge whereby I took a shower and then just dozed off on the coach while waiting for my next flight. During my time at the lounge, it was really raining heavily outside.
The usual aircraft for the 0900 flight is an A333, but this one was changed to a B773 which I really hate as the seats are tiny in J and really bad legroom (comparable to the AB6). I didn’t really eat as I was really tired by now. We arrived slightly ahead of schedule in KL.
As usual I was pretty dead by the time I got into KL. Just picked up my bags and then checked in for my MH flight and then just spent the rest of my time at the lounge.
Nice to know that MH will be changing their narrowbody fleet real soon. Its really starting to show its age especially on the B734. But one thing always nice about MH is that their inflight crew always cheers me up and makes my day a more pleasant one.
Couldn't agree more... we loved Marrakech but after four days we were absolutely ready to leave! We stayed at a beautiful riad (traditional inn) right in the heart of the old city, but as soon as we stepped outside the front door it was noise, dirt, music, total pandemonium... really interesting but four days was enough!

I found the departure terminal (Terminal 2) to be worse than the arrival terminal (Terminal 1) - older and darker. Fortunately, as you said, there are major construction works and Marrakech should have a much nicer terminal when they're finished.
Well all the satff did, but my big boss (my dad) took F. He didn't like the new sky suites though. he still prefers the one on the B744, and a lot of ppl actually said that too
Quoting Jsnww81 (Reply 3): Looks like we both had Morocco on the brain yesterday -
Hahahahah ....small world it is !

Yes, indeed, everyday believe it or not, I always had difficulty asking for ice cubes!!!! I can't definitely concur with your statement. Mind you, I was on a conference and had little spare time, but trust me. after a short while, I rather prefered to stay at the hotel! The souk was nice, but way too touristy! after 10 metres, the shops all repeat themselves again!!

Quoting BA319-131 (Reply 7): I know what you mean about TG AB6 Business Class seats, not much legroom, a shame really and even more so that the 773's follow suit.
At last, someone that truly agrees with me on this point I know some a.netters like flying on the AB6 for nostalgic values, but IMHO, if I am going to pay for a premium class travel, I at least would expect to get my money's worth right?
Actually each I everytime I go thru the F lounge of TG in BKK, its getting better and better, especially service wise. Very commendable indeed. Btw, what other airlines has opened their lounges in BKK? Any pics of them?

That's nice indeed, I was talking about that tired KUL lounge.
I have been to all the TG lounges at BKK as well as QF Club, Cathay Lounge, Sky Lounge (AF etc), Louis Tavern C and F. Overall not much to talk about, QF Club was not entirely finished though, so maybe there is hope. Will post pics of the Sky Lounge when I get around posting my KE report.

Actually I gave that guy death stares! His feet really stinks!!!
Quoting 9MMAR (Reply 19): The Slow Braised Short Ribs with gado-gado and peanut sauce as starter, I had that one too on my recent flight KUL-CGK MH723 on 25 May 2007. Delicious! I finished off the whole meals.
Actually on the menu the slow braised short ribs was shown to be a MH signature dish!!...I wonder what else are considered signature dishes?
