Ia Orana All !!!
After a night at the Hacienda Hotel LAX and waking up extremely late... noon, Hervé, my partner and I headed towards Newport Beach to pik up his reading glasses at Costco.
We drove back to the hotel, repacked our bags and checked out of our room.
Before heading to the Airport we had to bring back the car to Advantage rent a car and have their shuttle drop us off at LAX TBIT.
The rental car shuttle dropped us off in front of the Tom Bradley Terminal under the Singapore Airlines sign. We walked inside the terminal and headed towards the SQ check-in counters which were empty.
There was only one person in front of us when we joined the queue. We had checked on the internet 48 hours before departure and our seats 36A and 36C were confirmed. Our bags were tagged for SIN and we were handed ou boarding cards and walked with our bags to the TSA check. Our bags were cleared and brought back to SQ.
We then decided to do a little bt of shopping at the DFS and went to see what new men perfumes they had. We ended not buying anything but my mom's cigarettes.
After shopping we went outside to take a picture of the ramp and of our Airbus which landed earlier from SIN.
Our airplane 9V-SGD was parked between a China Airlines B747-400 and an Air India B747-400.
After taking the picture we proceded towards our gate and went to wait for our departure there. I took a few pictures of our ride being prepared for its ultra long flight across the Pacific.
On the other side of the terminal we saw the Air France plane that brought us from PPT the day before taxy past TBIT inbound from...PPT and it was going to depart for CDG later !
We sat at our gate waiting for boarding and saw the Qantas flight being called for boarding and soon after ours was also called.
We boarded the plane and I was really impressed with the Executive Economy Class cabin.

Our crew came through the cabin with the drink carts and served us our pre-dinner drink and we both elected to have a Singapore Sling.
I watched The Queen on the amazing KrisWorld entertainement system. This is one of the best system I experienced ever.
The crew came a second time through the cabin to served drinks and I passed this time.
I must apologize for the lack of pictures as it was a night flight and I slept a lot and I thought that the people around me wouldn't be pleased with the flashes.
Anyway, after the drink service the crew came back and cleared the cabin before serving the dinner. By the way, the loads in Executive Economy was quite light so there were quite a few spare seats...
The female cabin attendant serving our aisle came back and with the dinner trolley and asked for our choice of main course and I elected the shrimps and Hervé the chicken.
I really enjoyed the dimmed cabin and its very soft purply-pink light... It was so nice and peaceful... I wish we had that soft lighting...
Anyway, after the dinner as cleared we were offered Magnum Ice cream bars and the light were dimmed even more before reaching a complete black out. I watched a couple more movies before falling asleep...
Before taking the flight I thought I was going to kill myself as the flight was going to be over 16 hours and I nearly screamed in the cabin when the captain said it was going to last 17 hours and 12 minutes... I nearly died !!!
Well it wall went well and I slept nearly 7 hours before waking up near Japan (BTW congratulations to Japan for winning the Miss Universe crown thanks to Riyo Mori, gorgeous girl !)
When I woke up I went in the back of the aircraft to get something to drink. The curtains were drawn and I found the very well stacked bar begind it. The leading stewardess was just behind it waiting for a customer. She gave me a smile and invited me to help my self to anything to drink or eat. Only Water was on the bar and other drinks were available upon request. I picked up a granola bar and a peach yogurt as well as a couple of glasses of water; I have to say that I don't really like when areas like the bar are hidden behind curtains... it should be open or at least half open as their is nothing less inviting than a drawn curtain.
Anyway, I kept watching movies and the crew kept busy in the cabin handing out snacks, actually nearly forcing you to eat !!! They kept on offering tuna buns or chocolate bars... So much food ! They also served orange juice and water.
3 hours, YES 3 HOURS before we were to land in SIN the lights were slowly put back on and the nice soft lighting started to illuminate the cabins...
The crew came through the cabin and served breakfast.
I had the fried egg noodles and Hervé the omelette.
The egg noodles were the best ever ! one of the best meals I had on a plane !!! really good ! there another picture of it !
I took a couple of shots of the cabin after breakfast.
The crew cleared the cabin and came with the duty free cart and offered the inflight sales.
I Don't really like the fact that they woke us up so early as after the breakfast and duty free sales they still had an hour before we were to start descent...
The crew came through the cabin and handed out the landing forms for entering the state of Singapore.
We landed ahead of time and we disembarked quickly as the flight wasn't full.
Immigration was cleared rather quick and the bags weren't on the belt so fast tho... We waited 15 minutes before they finally showed. Our crew was waiting with us for their bags too...
We cleared customs and our driver was waiting for us outside. He escorted us to the Mercedes-Benz that was going to take us to the Novotel Clarke Quay.
The roads were empty and we reached our hotel in 20 minutes. Check in at the hotel was smooth but we didn't get the room I had booked, a one king size bed... This is our room for the first day as I had them change us the next day :
The view from our room
Orchard Road near the Paragon center that you can see on the left.
We went to visit the National Orchid Garden
Singapore's national flower
Colourful orchids
Chijmes
The Raffles Hotel
Long Bar at The Raffles
Raffles' Singapore Slings
Singapore's mascot... the Merlion
The next day we went to the Jurong Bird Park
Voila for the SQ and SIN part of my trip...
Next is the Qatar Airways flight SIN-CGK in Business Class.

That was a really cool TR and the pics were really cool.
But I didn't like one thing, "17 hours and 12 minutes," that was insanely ridiculous!
Otherwise, very good.

Ia Orana all !
Believe me WN230 I didn't like the soud of it either but It didn't feel longer than the TPE-LAX flight I took when I flew back.
That one was 6 hours shorter but it was more painful !

What can I say? Yes, it seems like an interminably long time from LAX to SIN. I've done 15:30 from LAX to HKG and felt as though I'd be flying the rest of my life!
As usual, excellent trip report. It looks as though SQ does things nicely, although a full flight may be a different story as far as service goes. Too bad you weren't upgraded. I would love to read one of your TR's on a long flight like that in Business! But those fried egg noodles look terrific.
Singapore is a beautiful place! Everytime I've been there, it's always most enjoyable. Do they still have all the satay stands down by the water? Those were wonderful at night. And Singapore is so clean. All the flowers everywhere. Quite similar to Tahiti, nest-ce pas? The only thing missing in your picture at the bird park is an Orchid behind your ear!
Merci encore pour votre essaie. You are one of the best when it comes to reporting.

I'm really impressed by the look of the seating and food on the A345.. looks better than J on some North American carriers. But there's really not a lot of point in comparing the two extremes of service..
S'pore is a great place.. the food is incredibly cheap and very tasty. Next time if you can, check out Raffles the Plaza for accommodation.. great hotel! It's just a pity you had to begin your journey in the worse than 3rd world hell hole LAX.

Hi, very nice TR. Singapore looks nice... Maybe I will make it there one day. I have never flown SIA but looks amazing. My travels keep me in North and South America. The best service I've experienced so far has been on LAN.
Looking forward to your next TR. Cheers from Canada!

I am very much enjoying following your trip to Indonesia. Un veritable suspense! As I just took a trip to Bali in May (GIG-CDG-AMS-CGK-DPS on AF/KL/GA & back) I'am really anxious to hear about your experience on Garuda and especially Bali.
As for the 17hrs on SQ I would hop on it any time with a good bock and the kind of AVOD you get on SQ.

Excellent report... and nothing beats one that has similarly well taken photographs. I always thought that these nonstop flights had 3 meals instead of two. So far I have not had the pleasure of trying out any ULH flights yet, hope to do so one day.
Welcome to my starry one world alliance, a team in the sky!

That's a very good report.
I just did the SIN-EWR nonstop on SQ, and am in NYC now. The flight time was 18:25 but after circling EWR for 40min it became 19:05. That said, it was an excellent flight. I am wondering whether or not to do a trip report though, cos I didn't take any photographs.
I thought the food was really really good in Executive Economy. We got Ben & Jerry's ice cream for dessert, and instead of peanuts we got packets of tortilla chips with sundried tomato dips with our pre-dinner drinks. That's really classy methinks!

- I use a Sony T-9 ( i think) for in flight shots, it has a night shot facility which enhances the light without using a flash, is most excellent.

By all means, please do a trip report. Photographs are nice additions, but words relay a lot, particularly when they're your own thoughts and remembrances. I know I and many others would enjoy reading your TR. 19:05 on any aircraft and you feel glued to your seat.

I can't image being stuck in aircraft for over 17 hrs but plus thing is that FAs continue to provide meals and drinks during flights to keep people comfortable and mind off about long flights. I am glad that Singapore airline able to provide passengers a eleccent meals that are worth eat.

Cool report! Loved reading it and looking at the pictures (it is not only entertaining but also very attractive visually). Thanks a lot for posting it! I am really curious about trying SQ's executiveconomy class. Will have to find the time to do it!

I really miss this flight. I used to fly from SFO to LAX to catch this flight. Then go to the meeting in Singapore then head back home on the same day on SQ 1 via HKG to SFO.
