After a few years browsing and reading from you all, it's only right I start sharing my flights too.
This is my first time. Please be kind.
It's gonna be short report while I figure things out.
Once OK, I'll do the return sector SGN-SIN and reports on CZ and MU.

Carrier: Vietnam Airlines (VN)
Sector: SIN-SGN (about 1hr 40mins)
May 2007
A/C A320

Just after take off. You can see the small spec of the A320 shadow over the water

Over Changi

A lousy pic of the cabin aisle

VN Cabin. Very clean. New a/c I think. Very nice seat fabric covers.

If you strain your eyes, there's an F/A doing her rounds.

My VGML-Oriental. My actual order was VGML-Indian (sometimes known as VGML-Asian). SATS Catering does good Indian meals. If you fly out of SIN, do try. Anyways, I got the Oriental one instead for this flight. Anyways, it's not too bad. Szechuan veg salad / Soy Gluten with ginko nuts, shanghai noodles with mushrooms and bak choy / fruit jello / roll and margarine
http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z...IN7_photos/?action=view¤t=VGML.jpg

There were 2 hot meal choices on this flight. Sure beats most European and US flights of below 2 hours.
One of the choices was a lamb stew with rice. The other was fried Chinese rice noodles with fish (sorry didn't get the pic). Dessert was a coconut cream and I think a shrimp salad.

Touchdown at SGN

While taxiing, got a shot of an A330 a/c

Hello SIN7,

Welcome to Airliners and your first trip report! Great photos and I love Saigon. Actually I am planning a trip back there in a few months time and I am deciding whether to use VN or TR because I have to cover HAN as well. S$330 (before tax) versus S$167 (after taxes) respectively... What do you think? As much as I want the latter, my partner is an airline food junkie!

So what did you do while you were there? Was the service on VN great?

Welcome to my starry one world alliance, a team in the sky!

Hi Ryan and Mark
Thanks for the welcome. Have lots to catch up from you guys. At times I wanna kick my ass why didn't join sooner.

Quoting Ryanair!!! (Reply 3):

Ha, ha . . . I was there with my students. After spending few months studying Vietnam, we went to SGN. It was a 5 day trip. We all enjoyed the trip to the Museums, Mekong River and Cu Chi Tunnels.

As it was with students, it was not a vacation for me. Had to keep an eye on them and lessons along the way. No going out at nights too. Meals were all at restaurants. Had to ensure they were all were eating safe and no one fell sick.

With all these . . . I DO need a trip back on my own!! I didn't have time to walk along the streets, eat street food. I had pho at the hotel !! that's not the real thing !!! I want the street ones! I missed the spring rolls, bbq meats and a whole lot more !!! Only street food I ate was the French Roll Sandwich with Vietnamese meats and veg. Awesome for 50 cents !! You're planning a trip back ya? Say maybe we can work out something together? Yes, HAN is where I want to go next with Hue and Da Nang.

TR or VN? As an airline buff, I'd prefer full service. Do try VN

Mark's right, VN is good for a up and coming country.
They are trying their best and it shows.
VN a/c, cabin, seats, pitch are as good. Most of their A321 are new too.
Meals - After seeing many airline meals, VN is not too bad. Their F&B have budget for proper meals and non alcoholic drinks for a short sector.
IFE - for my short flight, there was none. Not a problem these days with MP3 and iPod. I'm sure they do have for long haul.
Crew - Hmmm, on the whole polite and efficient. No small talk, nothing to make you special or welcoming smile onboard. Just doing their work and duty. Maybe they are not confident speaking English so they'd better keep quiet? Maybe it's the short sector I flew that they had to finish work fast?

Ha, ha . . . me too! Friends think I'm odd. I don't feel left out now.
In your previous reply, you suggested we can go spotting at Nicoll Drive. Thanks, Thanks, That'll be great!!
I go there often for my runs and the a/c. Pity Parameter Road is not a public road anymore. That's a better place to spot a/c land and take off.
Is your email contact seen in your airliners profile still working? I'll email you from there.

Enjoy the weekend.
