Alright so I went to see the 787 "Roll out"....in PAE on 7/8/07.
Nonreving all the way to Seatlle and Back was quite a journey and as I promised some peeps I'd share my experiences....here goes nothing. Please keep in mind this is pretty much a full report and could be quite boring...However I hope the pictures assist in keeping this a good report.
I began my journey here in CMH when I took a flight to PHL on US at around 2:35....
Upon reaching PHL, we found out that the flight to SEA was oversold, and so we sat at the gate, and awaited the possibility of an early end of our trip. However, because PHL is a horribly designed airport, and it was 5:30 in the afternoon, there were a number of International passengers missing connections and so, we got seats.
I got a middle seat, and had the opportunity to sit between a Spanish-Canadian guy who was scared to fly, and a 14 year old Flying alone, all the way from Glasgow UK. As the Spanish fellow fell asleep, I made friends with the 14 year old kid, and promptly began reaching across his face to take pictures
As we neared SEA, we came in from the north and flew just over the mountains...as seen below.
Upon Landing in Seattle Tacoma, I had to await my sister's arrival who was coming on a US flight from PHX, So sitting in the Airport, I took the time to take some more pictures.
After my sister reached, We went to my cousins place in Gig Harbour, WA which is about 65 miles south of PAE, so the next morning it was quite a ride enroute..
I wasn't one of those people cool enough to be in the hanger with everyone else, so I thought i'd take the time to go to the Future of Flight across from the plant to see the rollout with a number of people who came in to see the rollout.
We had reached a bit early, and had the opportunity to walk around for a while before the official rollout ceremony had started...
For the 787 Rollout, there was a special exhibit. the 787 Rolls Royce Test bed was out and in its full glory....
Getting to see the Trent 1000 was a sight to see, the engine thats going on 787 is absolutely fantastic, below are some picture of the engine, upclose...
So we were chillin outside, and then we realized that it was 3:30 and OUR rollout started as the 787 was rolled out of the Paint Hanger about 30 minutes before the Hanger was to be open to those inside the rollout ceremony.
As you can see there were a lot of people present for the rollout party.
A look of it Up close,
We then went inside after it was rolled into position and were watching the presentation from the Boeing Store where we were able to see the 787 through the window and also the presentation on TV....
After the presentation was over, we went back home...One the way back we passed just pass the Hanger and I managed to reach across my cousin and grab this shot.
The next day, we went back to PAE for the Boeing tour.
I happened to get on the right bus and got a tour of the 777 and 787 production line. The 787 was sitting there just below us in the hanger, It was fantastic sight...I was just about 100 feet away from the plane itself, and its just a brilliant looking plane. Something about the curves of the wings is just so sexy looking.
After this we went over to the Museum of flight which was at BFI, unfortunately we got there just after it was closed, but we decided to watch some planes take off and land...Here are some of my attempts at some good pictures with my W-100 Sony Cybershot.
Sadly they didn't come out as well as I wanted them to, what are with those black dots anyway...
Anyway...The next day, we ended up with the misery of flying back the the east coast. My dad and sister had to get to PIT and I to CMH.
So we Were supposed to go on the Red Eye to PHL and then they would fly to PIT and i'd fly to CMH but as the world of Non Revenue travel dawned on us, we ended up leaving early...So we got to the airport, and Found out that our flight from CMH-PHX has 8 seats open with 36 people on the Non rev list. (they'd fly from PHX to PIT ...And i'd Fly PHX-PHL-CMH)...But some how, cause of Mom's seniority we got on.
After take off, I once again had a window seat, but asked the gracious lady if i could take some Pictures.
We took off Northbound, made a right turn and continued southbound...Flying over the most magnificent, Mt. Rainer...Pictures Below.
Upon landing in PHX, we came to find out that the PHL flight was now completely overbooked due to weather diversons, and so My Dad and sister decided to spend the night at my cousins place in PHX, and I took the Boston Flight, Planning, PHX-BOS-PHL-CMH...Crazy...but...It seemed completely possible as all the flights were completely open, and I'd get to CMH at 10:30 in the morning, instead of 5pm the same afternoon.
I took the Boston flight and upon landing at 6:15am I sprinted through the Boston terminal, and got to the gate after the whole flight had boarded, and just barely got on. A Window seat...was awarded to me, and so we got some nice photos....of a takeoff from Boston on a very Dreary morning.
After Landing in PHL
I sat in the F terminal for 30 minutes, and Flew in this ERJ....
Back to Columbus...
All in All it was a good time, My Sister and Dad ended up taking a the flight from PHX to CMH and then taking a Flight to PIT and reaching at 8pm that evening...where as I reached at 10:30 am.
It was a very fun experience....your thoughts?
P.S. Anyone know what those stupid Black dots are on all my photos?...And its not the lens Because i just had that cleaned.
