Hey all, I decided to post on my recent trip to florida on Us Airways with my family. Even though we live in Pittsburgh and are spoiled by our excellent airport, we saved 600 dollars by flying out of CMH, so it was well worth the drive.
The flight on this rather small and noisy jet left on time and arrived a few minutes late. I think it is because ATC had us circle PHL 5 times. The only thing odd is just before landing, they announced the flights that everyone on board was connecting to and each ones status. I have never seen them do that before.
Dep: 9:55PM Actual Dep: 11:05PM
This was without a doubt the best flight I ever have (or ever will) be on. We were on US's brand new (2 days old) 170 pax jet. Amazingly, there was a total of 14 pax on board!!! When the agents started boarding the flight and no one showed up to the gate, they became quite confused. After few minutes they announced "What the heck, any one who feels like going to Orlando tonight may board a gate B27." A few people at the neighboring gates going to other cities tried to take them up on this. lol Anyways, once we boarded, we were greated by an understandably happy crew. They announced over the P.A. that there was first class upgrades for everyone. The 26 pax 1st class cabin is really big and really nice! After about an hour delay because there was no running water on the airplane, we got off of the ground. Since it was such a late night flight, we didn't get to have the normal amenities in 1st class but ohh well, it was still the most comfortable flight I have ever been on. How many times do you get a brand new private A-321? Not much. We landed in MCO around 1AM and thanked the crew for a wonderful flight.
Nothing too eventful about this flight. It was about 3/4 full and we hit some turbulance due to some weather in the area. The plane was in clean and in good shape.
This plane was obviously ready for retirement or something. It was in the old paint job and looks like it was never taken care of. The exterior looked like someone beat it with a sledge hammer and the interior was filthy. The crew was also miserable. This flight almost felt like it was on a different airline. We did take off and land on time though. After a 11:50PM landing a CMH we waited about 25 minutes for our luggage to come out (which is very long for such a small airport ). From there it took us 40 minutes to reach our car. CMH is not a very convenient airport at all. It is not laid out well and you are forced to take a shuttle bus to your car in far away parking lots.
Once I get the time I will also make a posting of a NW/AQ trip over new year's 1999-2000. It was PIT-DTW-HNL-OGG/OGG-LIH-HNL-OGG/OGG-HNL-MSP-PIT.

Don'tcha just love US Airways??????
I fly the A321 for them and boy are they nice!!!! I have heard of free 1st-class upgrades for all, but never on an A321!!!! You were very lucky. Yes, the 737-300 was probably ready for retirement and will (if on schedule) be heading to the Graveyard in Arizona within the next few months.

Not all parking at Port Columbus "forces" one to take a shuttle bus to their car from the terminal. Like at Pittsburgh International, as well as most other airports, the long-term parking lots are situated away from the terminal, and are accessible by shuttle busses. You could have parked in the garage at CMH, which is attached to the terminal, but it would have been much more costly.

Well I guess I caused some controversy about the parking at CMH. After a LONG day in Florida, it was annoying having to wait in line behind 50 people 1/2 an hour at midnight to get a shuttle bus to our car. The shuttle driver had to stop at 5 other cars before he finally reached ours. Overall, it was just very inefficient compared to what I am used to. In PIT, we usually do not have a problem parking in the extended parking lots close to the moving walkway directly into the terminal. You are right, shuttle buses are available at PIT to the very far end of the extended parking, however I have never needed to use them as the moving walkway is always close enough to walk to.
