For the past week I have been down here in Nashville visiting my grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins. Being the aviation nut I am, my uncle who is a Nashville Metro Police Department Lieutenant knows the person who is Assistant Chief of Security at BNA. So being as cool as my uncle is, he hooked me up with his friend and I got a grand tour of BNA. I never would have thought I would have gotten the chance to travel around a major international airport like I got to do today. I even got to watch an alert 2 in progress when a Skywest (Delta Connection) CR9 (N196SK) made a safe landing with some flap problems. Anyways...heres some pictures of my adventure, most of them come from the pod above the terminal at BNA. A sort of mini control tower of sorts. Anyways....Enjoy.
Me in front of some of the crash trucks.
You can see the crash trucks following the Skywest CR9 down the taxiway. Sorry, the plane is behind my head.
Watching the CR9 taxi to the gate.
Still watching.
Watching a Pinnacle CR2 taxi its way in.
Southwest making a timely turnaround.
Two work horses sitting at the gate awaiting their next flight.
Unloading at Gate B4
View of the field.

So thats my trip.

very cool oppurtunity and great pictures. I was able to do the same thing but at PHL, back in the summer of 2001. My mom arranged with her company for me to view all their aircraft in the hanger at PHL. Then the head of the operation called the control tower and I was able to get an unexpected tour of the tower, it was amazing, I thought that would never happen again post 9/11. I have a ton of pictures of the priviate planes and tower but their all on film since I didn't have a digital camera yet. Maybe one day i'll get around to scanning them into the computer.

I would have gotten to go into the control tower but there is too much security hassle to go through to get up there.

very good and you are lucky person to get good around of BNA. Very good pics.
??? I guess it is compared to Appleton..Aside from the China Air Cargo what other international service is there? When I was in Nashville, I thought it was strictly minor league. Glad you had a good visit any ways.

Frontier flies to CUN and Jazz flies up to Toronto. The largest scheduled are 319s. Every now and then Delta schedules a 757 turn and NW or US may throw in a 320. Other than that BNA is regional jet heaven.

Cody, those are really good pics you got! I remember BNA. It is an easier airport to maneuvre through and fly through. Very little traffic. I flew AC Jazz to BNA about 5 years back. You're certainly well connected with the right people!! Such a cool experience! Thanks for sharing cool photos with us!

Not exactly. I recently moved to BNA and have gotten to know the traffic pretty well. While we see RJ's from AC, US, UA, NW, CO, DL,and AA (all through their respective regional partners), we also recieve plenty of mainline traffic. We get plenty of AA, US, DL, and NW mainline jets. AC, UA, and CO are the only ones with no mainline service. On top of that, we're a SW focus city with lots of 737's all over the place and F9 sends 319/318's our way all day to/from DEN (they also offer seasonal service to CUN). And B6 gives us a 195 3x a day to/from JFK, which isn't a true RJ either.
I believe thats a general summary of our traffic, feel free to correct me!
Point in case: BNA doesn't offer a wide variety of widebodies, but we certainly see a good mix of mainline aircraft. Saying we are a "regional jet heaven" is completely false, and our traffic level is growing, so hopefully this notion will fade more with time. A better example of a "regional jet heaven" would by TYS, which only sees a periodic mainline from DL to/from ATL 1x daily.
Thanks for the great report, I'm glad you had a good time going around "Music City's" airport!

Both of you have no clue.

Need anything else be said at all.
With over 450 movements a day (85 of them on Southwest), BNA is a major DOMESTIC airport and a minor INTERNATIONAL airport. Now if you want to argue that, do it amongst yourselfs. But the facts are the facts.
Katw- You are the man for getting the tour! It's great up there. I have been up there once a while back and loved it. Too bad you missed the China Airlines 747 in the morning though. You realize that's the old AA ground tower I assume.

I use BNA nearly monthly. The renovations are nice, but it is minor league. As you have said - facts are facts - from a spotters point of view the airport is very boring - if you miss the CI 74F then you've missed the boat. With JetBlue pulling out the highlights are sports charters and the DL757 if they schedule it. Other than that...

You should take a look at the BNA page on here, or my website, and see what shows up here from time to time. You would be surprised. If you use the airport once a month, and I live here 365 days a year, how can you judge it fairly??? We're not JFK or MIA, but for Nashville, we have an impressive mix of stuff.
