This will be a brief report. I am a *A flyer, but I've always wanted to check out the QF product. So I purchased a one way YVR-SFO in C and upgraded to F using my QF miles (thanks to the starwood transfer years ago. As an aside, about 5 years ago, you got a 2 for 1 transfer from starwood to QF. I was able to use my QF miles for 2 Concorde trips!).

Getting to YVR was easy. Took UA LAX-YVR.
Getting through Canadian customs was (as always) annoying. The officers are truly trained not to smile. I was honest about traveling for the sake of loving to fly, which they found hard to believe.

Last time I did a similar YVR jaunt, I was pulled into secondary screening where they interrogated me over a list of names I had. They thought it was drug related. It was actually a family tree I had made in preparation for a funeral I was to preside over the following day. (I'm a rabbi).

Anyway, check in was a breeze. QF pax use the AS lounge in YVR. Not up to par with F lounges, but the agents were wonderful.

Boarding was easy. Before take off, we were offered large printed menus, canapes, and drinks. I asked for an amenity kit (as I collect them), and was given one with a smile. I must admit that the kit is pretty anemic (a small case with earplugs and a bag with three kinds of cream. Is there a separate kit that is also given out in addition to this with toothebrush/ paste/ eye shades, etc?)

After take off, the next 1:40 was time well spent. Dinner began with salad and bread. I chose the beef main course. I finished with the cheese plate and a piece of chocolate. Red wine, white wine, dessert wine, and a coffee helped wash it all down.

When I wasn't looking at the beautiful scenery (Sunset on one side, Mt. Hood on the other), I watched one episode of "Raymond" and two of "The Simpsons."

Not a bad way to get from YVR to SFO!
