Quick business trip from Albany, NY to Portland, ME via Philly on USAirways.

7/14/01
Got to Albany airport 45 minutes before departure. Checkin line was pretty quick. The new albany airport is very nice and clean. Proceeded through security and they swabbed my backpack (for drugs?) I was clean of course  Smile

Aircraft for US977 ALB-PHL was a 737-300, N515AU. Still painted in USAIR colors as seen in this photo:

The interior of the plane was clean and the flight was only about 30% full. I had the entire row to myself (I had seat 18A). Flight pushed back exactly ontime, 5:34pm. There were no announcements from the flight deck at anytime, i overheard a FA saying it was their last flight of the day and they were really tired. I have no idea what altitude we flew at. Service consisted of pre-poured cups of coke, diet, or sprite, that was it. Flight landed in Philly early followed by a very quick taxi to gate and deplane.

I had about 1.5 hours until my next flight so I had dinner at the philly airport food court (there's nothing better than mall chinese food!) I then went shopping in some of the stores. I lost track of time because my next flight was already boarding. I held seat 4a (right behind bulkhead) for US350 phl to pwm (portland maine). The plane was 100% full. I had no idea so many people could fit on a 737-400. I boarded last because I was in 4a and they boarded from the rear.

The flight pushed back early and taxied almost immediately right onto the runway and takeoff. We did one of those "turn and goes", you know when they apply full throttle 90 degress to the runway and then go for it!

Many clear announcements were made by the pilots. We cruised at FL330 for just a few minutes before having to descend again. Landing in Portland seemed a little tricky. Right before touchdown, I think they applied a little too much power and we coasted just above the runway for a little while. We required full thrust reverse and breaks and turned off the runway at the very last possible turnoff before the grass. It was exciting! We arrived 1/2 hour early due to no other traffic.

Tomorrow I'm returning to ALB. PWM-PHL on a F100 and then PHL to ALB on a 737-300. Will write that report tomorrow.

Excuse my ignorance please (My US Geography isn't all that) but isn't that a weird way to get from ALB to PWM.

Isn't PWM north of ALB?

So you flew south to fly north  Smile

Well, how many nonstop flights do you think their are from Albany to PHM?

PHL is a huge hub for US Airways. Therefore the only way to get from ALB-PHM on US is to go from North to South.

If you want to be technical about it, AA, CO, and US all fly ALB-BOS which will conect to PWM, US actually flys 5 times daily. All three airlines also ofer service from BOS-PWM so technically you dont need to fly south to go to PWM, just EAST and then North!!!!  Smile Just thought id throw that in..

Yes, I know I flew south to go north. Infact, CO has a nonstop from ALB to PWM. The real reason I flew this way was I needed to leave as late as possible on saturday (in order to attended an event that didn't end until 3:30pm) and the last flight out was via Philly.
