One of our long time friends moved to Barcelona 6 years ago from Miami. Since I was in Germany my mom and I decided to take the opportunity to go to Barcelona and visit our friend and her kids. We went to Iberia.com while we were still in the US to see how much the trip would cost. The english Iberia site said there were no non-stop flights from FRA to BCN. On the German Iberia site there were non-stop flights but when we went to purchase them there was an error message. We gave up and bought the tickets in Germany. When we bought the tickets the flight number was IB and also XG. They never said whether we were flying with Iberia or Clickair. At FRA were checked in by Iberia staff and the boarding passes were on Iberia paper. The only thing that wasn't IB was the actual plane. Everything was done in a very professional way except they never said if we were flying on Iberia or Clickair.

FRA - BCN
Flight: XG1045
Reg: EC-ICT
Departure: 19:20
Arrival: 21:50 (due to late take-off)
Aircraft: A320
Seat: 24A (open seating)

FRA Terminal 1 scene.

View from the train to Terminal 2.

Terminal 2 is much nicer than Terminal 1. It was my first time using this terminal after 17 years of flying into FRA.

The check in area was empty and the Emirates staff was just sitting around waiting. IB was the only desk that had people checking in at the time.

The seats and cabin was in great condition and the seats were hard but comfortable. The FA's had really nice unifoms and they looked comfortable, stylish, and casual.

Decent legroom.

In the seat pocket in front of each seat there was a menu and a card showing what to do in an emergency. On this flight there were barely any menus so it took a long time to do the meal service.

The flight was delayed 40 minutes due to "regulations" and we just sat there for the entire time and then we finally started moving. I will never forget the taxi for this flight. I felt like I was on a tour of FRA we saw everything and it took a good 20-30 minutes.

Heidelberg

The food was pretty expensive.

I got my mom a ham sandwich and a diet coke and the food pictured for myself and the cost was 25 Euro.

Barcelona.
The approach in to BCN was very turbulent which I think I was the only who enjoyed it.

Landing Video:

In this picture the airport looks clean and organized but there was construction going on so it was loud and chaotic. Lot's of exits were blocked off and it was hard to get around.

BCN - FRA
Flight: XG1044
Reg: EC-GRI
Departure: 16:15
Arrival: 18:20
Aircraft: A320
Seat: 11F (open seating)

After a wonderful four days in Barcelona it was time to go back to FRA. There was a bus to the airport from the center of the city which we used to go back to the airport.

The bus dropped everyone off at one stop so we had to walk pretty far to where we needed to enter. The sidewalks were under construction so they blocked off part of the street to walk on safely.

Once we were inside it wasn't air condtioned very well and the lines to check in for Clickair were really long and moving so slow. After waiting 1 hour and 20 minutes in line a sign that was for general check in changed to FRA and about 10 passengers in the three long lines rushed towards this sign.

After we were checked in quickly we went upstairs to security. It would make it so much easier if they had escalators or more elevators because it's hard to get up stairs with baggage. The Security line was so slow when we finally got through it and found our gate the plane was boarding. I expected to explore the airport a bit since we got there so early.

We went into a downstairs area to get on the bus to our plane and that is where they tore the boarding passes. There was a man tearing them and a woman who was scanning them on the computer. When it was our turn the man had a sizable stack of boarding passes in his hand and then he yelled something in Catalan to the woman and threw them all at her face and then they started to yell at each other in front of all the passengers. On the bus one lady that spoke English told us that they were fighting because she was going too slow.

New terminal. The new one is fine but I think they could use a new terminal just based on how unorganized the current terminal is.

Marsellie?

Landing video:

My aunt was picking us up in FRA and they told her the XG flight number but on the signs our flight number was shown as IB which created a problem for her trying to find us. They need to either write both XG and IB or pick one and only use XG.

Thoughts on Clickair: The planes are very well maintained on the inside and they are very clean. The service was efficient but not very friendly. They have a nice livery and the food was excellent. The bread and meat used were really fresh and delicious. The announcements were done at a volume where everyone can hear and understand them unlike many airlines. The price was also good at 300 Euro compared to 850 Euro per person on LH. I would definately fly with Clickair again. They played Gotan Project during the taxi which was nice that they played decent music on board.

Thoughts about Barcelona: What a beautiful city. If you haven't been you must see it! It is so clean and organized and old and new all at the same time. There was a lot to do and the city is easy to get around with a great transportation system. The architecture is one of a kind. The food was great and there was something cool to see on each street. The people were slightly rude and unfriendly but nothing compared to New Yorkers.

Nice trip report!

Agree with you about BCN, so much to do and see here! I fell in love with the city when I first visited back in 2004, needless to say I moved here 3 weeks ago! can't be any more happier!!

Quoting ThereAndBack (Thread starter):

COUGH-ripoff-COUGH!! 25 Euro!! thats almost the cost of a clickair ticket!!!

I have my doubts about Clickair, my friend flew on them BCN-FCO-BCN in july and the plane was late 4 hours because one of the planes went tech somewhere, I wasn't happy about waiting in FCO from 1pm untill 6:45 when they finally arrived, I flew LHR-ZRH-FCO on LX and arrived first!

LOL! Typical Spanish attitude.

Man- Tia a ver que vas muy lento! (throws boarding passes at her)

Woman- Me cago en tu madre cabron! que te den por el culo!

I will not translate this...use your imagination.

Excellent Trip Report ThereAndBack

I also had the pleasure of travelling on EC-GRI (MSN 177) OPO-BCN on the 25/07/2007. Overall I was very pleased with the service, despite the flight being late. Both the interiors and exterior were clean and well maintained and seat pitch was more than adequate for the lengh of the flight.

I would not hesitate flying with Clickair again.  Smile

Well done!!!  bigthumbsup
Last time, the gate agent on Clickair yelled to the passengers. They received a boarding passes with differnt hand-written letters. but no announcements at the gate- so everyone queued up! On boarding she was screaming why no passengers with letter "A" are comeing forward and getting rude to passengers with a different letter... well, nobody was told, that passengers with letter "A" board first, folllowed by letter "B" and so on...  banghead

I don't like CLICK... Sorry! I just love VUELING! the reason: click is not offering entertainment, unfriendly staff, chaotic boarding, no allocated seats etc. Much more space to improve!  checkmark

I liked this trip report! Thanks ThereandBack for posting this. BCN does look disorganised with all of the construction work going on and a large number of planes parked remotely. That said, those pictures of the terminal remind me of my visit there 2 years ago.

I must say that the reviews that I am seeing about XG are totally mixed. Some say that it is OK, others are not happy about a lot of things. The thing though is that they need to decide whether a particular flight is an IB service or an XG one. That sort of dangerous limbo thing they are doing by having people buy a ticket as a flight on the one and end up flying on the other can be confusing and lead to people missing their flights, particularly if they do not understand the system (us on this forum would generally know but think about someone who does not travel often). It is interesting to see on the FRA board that a flight to Zaragosa is listed as IB, yet BCN, Spain's second largest city and certainly one generating lots of premium pax, is run by XG.

Barcelona is indeed fabulous, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

One more thing - MIAspotter, your argument notes are in Castilian Spanish, not Catalan but yes I know what's being said there...

I know its just castillian spanish, I just arrived here in BCN like 3 weeks ago so my level of Catalan is... very low... LOL

Just imagine that argument in Catalan

Something like...

Man- Val ja que vas molt lent tia! (throws boarding passes at her)

Woman- Tens una mala llet tio, Em cago en la teva mare, que et donin pel cul

or something... I just used some translating thingy

300 EU per person seems steep for a low fare airline. Barcelona unlike Madrid is unpleasant and as you say very "disorganised". The TAP Agent in Barcelona forgot to put our names on the luggage tags. As a result our luggage was removed in Lisbon and we were not allowed to continue to Funchal until we had picked up our bags and rechecked them again. This caused a 4 hour delay for us.

In addition the Passport control officer in Barcelona stamped our passports "one month ahead; ie October instead of September." I guess he was on drugs. When we left Portugal the passport agent made a big fuss about this. He called his superiors on the telephone and when they did not respond he told us to wait. Only after we begged him to let us go as our flight was about to leave did he let us go.

Like your TR's. Very entertaining to read. I think what you have said about the people in bcn being rude is , they don't
speak english or another foreign language. I was told that after visited bcn twice.
Well keep up that good work of yours.

Nice report - " ThereAndBack "

Much appreciated, because Mrs S and myself are about to try Clickair for the first time ZRH-BCN in a few weeks.

I think the message is:

Eat before flying
Print boarding pass at home if possible - 1 hour 20 minutes to wait for check-in at Barcelona?!

If this thread is not locked by end September, I'll post some comments on our experience.

nice report and great videos. The leather seats look quite new. 25 EUR is a really rip-off!!!

I've been in BCN two weeks ago and I was so lucky to make use of the Quick Check-In maschines. Otherwise I would miss my LH flight back to FRA due to long and not moving queues.

The next time you fly in to FRA, please let me know!  Wink

3 years late, I reply!

Clickair were great ZRH-BCN return.
I for one am sorry to see the end of them.
A bit late, but no stress, no hassle.

A related factor could be the exceptionally dirty glare I received from Mrs Standby for "staring too long at the cabin-crew".
"I'm interested in her uniform", was a very feeble defence...and I got a "what are you like?" as a reply.

As is stands now, Swiss have a monopoly on ZRH-BCN, surely it's time for Vueling to come along as well?
