I am fairly new here, but had an interesting flight from Den-Ord back in April.

I do not remember the flight number, but my wife, 6 month old son and myself were returning to ORD after a weekend trip to see some relatives in Denver. We were on a United 767-300. Great Plane, had the PTVs and seemed like a fairly new plane. We had the three middle seats which gave us some extra room.

We actually pulled away from the gate right on time. During taxiing out, I had the earphones on and tuned to channel nine to listen to ATC. Everything was uneventful up to that point.

As we began to down the runway, we had reached a good speed when suddenly the pilots shut down the plane. I heard through the ATC communication the pilots say that a "throttle up" warning light came on.

ATC asked if they wanted to come back to the terminal. The pilots requested that they be allowed to go back to the taxiway and contact the maintenance facility in San Francisco. The co-pilot came on the intercom and told us EXACTLY what was going on.

The pilots asked ATC if any other aircraft was behind us as the maintenance facility wanted them to put on the brakes and do a practice power-up. That was incredible. They let the engines go full throttle as we just sat there.

The pilots told ATC that they were ready to go. We were next in line and made a wonderful take off roll. The flight was very smooth and the pilots made up the time in the air.

I thought this was pretty interesting. I am curious as to what the problem might have been. Does anyone have an idea of what a "throttle-up warning" would be.

Another great flight on UAL. I have been back to Denver since, one 777 and one 767 on the return flight.

Thanks!

Greg

I do not know. However if you go to a website called www.airdisasters.com you can go to a Q & A section and pose that question to an airline pilot.

I would try posting this in the "Tech/Ops" forum here on A*net as well. I'm sure you'll get a good answer.

On my last flight to Denver from San Francisco, we had to go back to the gate because of an engine problem. It was a quick fix. Well, it took them about 40 mins to do.

Anyways that saounds like an interesting experience that you had.
