To read abt the onward journey from BOM to LHR plz check out BOM - LHR On 9W's Brand New 773-ER (by Justbala Aug 1 2007 in Trip Reports)

22 JUL 07
Sector: LHR - BOM
Flight: 9W 119
A/C : B 777-300 ER
Reg: VT-JEA
Load : 70%
STD : 0930
ATD: 0955
STA : 2300
ATA :2305

The return flight 9W 120 was scheduled from LHR at 0930. I reached LHR T3 well in advance and was shocked to see the International Terminal. Almost feeling like BLR, there was construction work happening at the entrance and the interiors were a mess. 9W check in was at one end along with AA. Luckily the crowd had not started to build up and i was the 5th in the queue.

Coupla guys ahead of me, had problems with their cabin baggage as it was way over the allowed limits. My check in was smooth. My check in baggage weighed in at 30.1KG and the check in agent tagged it with a "HEAVY" sign. I asked for one of the last rows, I prefer the last row coz of its 2-3-2 config. I was allotted 60K, window seat on the right aisle.

The security clearance at LHR was a mess, took abt 45 mins. There ere lots of Indian passengers from AI connecting to YYZ.

There was no passport check on tht day, so i went in straight to the duty free. Had a quick breakfast and did a bit of shopping and headed str8 for the gate. I wanted to take a few pics of the 9W a/c, but unfortunately our gate did not afford any view of the a/c at all.

The crowd consisted of teenagers from Canada/US who seem to be headed home. They were being escorted by the parents of one of the kids.

The boarding announcements were made for the rear section and as expected everyone decided to make a mad dash for the exit!! ..

We were welcomed on board by a female and a male F/A and I made my way to the back of the a/c. The crew were all very cheerful and all smiles!!

Reached the last row and realised that the a/c does not have a 60K!! The last seat was 60H... Is it possible to check in smone into a seat tht does not exist on the flight?!! .. neways the F/A said it shud be 60H and i took tht seat.

The thinned down IFE box

new ergonomic seats in Y class. Very comfortable, with the saddle back support. Plus the thinner frame and the "bottom sliding out first" gives more leg room.

The Touch Screen IFE - JetScreen. They have an awesome collection of Hindi n English movies, short features and music

The crew distributed cold towels, menu cards and welcome drinks. The safety demo was performed manually again. The pushback was delayed due to coupla missing pax and we lost our initial take off slot.

Push back snaps (Sorry for the bad images- my window was very badly smudged by oil stains.. guess msbody in the previous flight got too comfortable!!)

The Take off roll from LHR - was quite bumpy like the one in BOM. Is it usual with 773?!

Pretty Cloudy Day as we headed across the Channel towards Belgian airspace

A drinks service was started immediately along with sandwiches.. the first of 3 services on this 8 hr flight!!

Veg sandwich and coke for me

The mood lighting starts to kick in after the plates are cleared
http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/4122/dsc03304dh9.jpg

Coupla hours later, the lights were slowly put back on for the lunch service
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/9216/dsc03308gt0.jpg

The menu for this leg consisted of

Indian

Paneer Dalfreize (Veg)

Murgh Rogini (Non Veg)

served with Paratha, Salad and Gajar Badam Kheer

European

Herb Crusted Fish, with vegetables au gratine, bread roll, fresh greens and a slice of Apple pie

The drinks menu consisted of

Australian Red/White Wine

Screwdriver
Bloody Mary

Jack Daniels
Smirnoff Vodka ... and some more on the list which I cannot recollect rt now

I took the european selection along with some red wine and was excellent!! More than made up for the poor food on the inward leg.

The crew came around for re-fills.

I spent the rest of time on JetScreen...

We flew over Turkey, Iran before entering Pakistan. The F/As came around with water and juices in between and were very attentive during the entire flight. Every call was promptly answered.

A beautiful sunset

Abt an hr and half before landing, the mood lights were set on again, for the evening snacks round.

Moodlight kicking in
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/5630/dsc03321gi4.jpg

The snacks consisted of Indian snacks, ragda patties, chole and chicken/paneer along with a drinks service
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/6751/dsc03324zl2.jpg

We landed in Mumbai almost on time and for the first time (for me) we were not at a gate in BOM. The F/A in the rear was also surprised that we were at a remote bay. We were bussed to the terminal by 9W coached. This gave me an opp to take a snap of the massive engines of the 777.

http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/3288/22072007666ng1.jpg

Immigration was smooth, but baggage took sm time to arrive since we had parked at a remote bay.

Overall, the 9W international experience has been amazing!! It has a wonderful product, great crew and service, excellent IFE and on time performance!! An Indian Airline which we can proudly recommend to everyone!!

Hope you enjoied this TR...Just did a round trip on DEL-BRU-YYZ sector on 9W.. would be posting the TR soon for tht!!

I would love to try JET, their 777s look fab and the service and catering sound top notch, certainly more than you would recieve on BA or Virgin for the sam sector.

No not really but when you're seat in in the last row you do really feel more bumpy

Hi,

lovely report to read!

I've been on a JL B77W (NRT-SIN) and also experienced a bumpy takeoff roll, seats just behind the wing in Y. Don't know if it's usual on these versions though...

9W seems pretty good. Seats are great shaped, nice features in the IFE (good to see the IFE box getting smaller nowadays), and overall the service is quite well I think!

About your window... I would have asked for a towel to get it clean  Wink

Cheers,
Eric

Great report Bala - and looking forward to your next one on the 332 to YYZ!

I suspect 9W will slowly become the preferred carrier for a lot of folks that currently fly BA, LH etc.- kind of like "SQ" of India! Good luck to them and I hope they manage to maintain their high standards.

Great TR. The shots from the cabin are nice. The maroon colour and the leg room look really good.

As I said in another post, when 9W expand to other parts of the world they will certainly give the likes of SQ, CX, EK etc a run for their money as one of the best carriers out there.

I like JET and the 777 both. I hope they start flying the London ORD segment as well. Normally, I fly BA Club World, but would love the chance to try Jet in Biz class.

Unfortunately LHR-ORD is not on their radar for the next couple of years. The closest will be ORD-BRU-LHR (with the ORD-BRU sector not even announced yet, but likely to start by next summer in their next wave of expansion via BRU).

Great report Bala and lovely pics. What camera are you using or is it your phone? Jet seems to live up to their reputation. Hopefully with all the exapnsion, they can keep up their standards, unlike a famous airline from this part of the world which is becoming increasingly a hit-or-miss affair.

Cheers

The website has been having the occasional glitch ever since they moved to new servers. Happened to me a couple of times too. If any of your posts were actually deleted by the A.net crew, you would normally get an e-mail saying so.
