I will post my flight on Oct. 14 from Portland to Spokane and onto Seattle. I took the most ramp photos in PDX and GEG because I was in no mood to take any from GEG to SEA after such a long and cumbersome delay. Yet, I think Alaska and Horizon handled the fog and air traffic delay situation this past Sunday quite well. Kudos to them for a very professional team of agents on ground working to soothe out problems, and of course, kudos to a strong partnership that makes the delay not so bitter.

I will post photos in two days. Please come back to see them. I will continue the trip report then too.

Cool, I look forward to it. And make sure to explain why you went to GEG rather than directly to SEA when you do so, because I'm wondering... miles? fare? diversion? or simply wanted to get an extra flight in?

Great but here's a suggestion, just wait and post your pics and TR together. Since you really don't have anything to post here, this announcement seems kinda unecessary. I hope I don't sound too harsh here but like I said you don't really have to announce a TR for sometime in the future; just " Git er Done"  Cool

 checkmark  Agreed!

checkmark  Again, agreed. Some people have huge pet peeves on this TR forum when other A.netters do this to reserve some space for their future TR reports. Some would argue "A waste of bandwidth space". I dont know if it is a forum violation, but in the future, check with the rules before doing stuff like this. Neither Oldman55 or I are being harsh with you on this. Just food for thought.

Looking forward to your report on AS & QX.

Thanks for the input guys! Had a problem with the cd reader in my laptop. It won't read. So it won't read the installation cd for the card reader. I'll remember to post it together in the future.

After such a long time trying to iron out a few technical difficulties on my side, this long awaited trip report has come, and with the pictures to prove it!

P R E L U D E
I lived Sunday October 14th twice due to crossing the International Date Line from NRT-PDX. My travels originated from Hong Kong on NW 002, and transferred to NW 006 from NRT-PDX. The 332 was so comfortable flying overseas that sitting in an aisle seat was not so bad. I actually slept okay for the short flight. NW 006 was short because of strong tail winds pushing us across the Pacific, allowing us to land almost 1 hour earlier on Oct. 14th in North America. TSA in PDX was amazing! They were so friendly! I was going to Seattle to catch my flight to DFW and then GUA later that night, so I decided I had lots of time. I decided to get the ticket from Portland to Seattle, via Spokane. It wasn't a mileage run in any sense nor was it cheap. It was, however, a joyride turned stressful. I wanted to avoid the early morning fog in SEA, and so I asked the agent to connect me through Spokane. Because of the major fog problem in Seattle, and ATC problems, it caused a major backlog in both AS and QX flights that day! What was only meant to be a 2 hour and 50 minute connection turned out to be a 5 hour connection! I was stupid, but at the same time, I really did enjoy the flights! I got the Elite miles for CO too!

T R I P R E P O R T -
Sunday October 14, 2007
Horizon Air 2366
Dep: Portland (KPDX)
Arr: Spokane (KGEG)
Dash 8, Q400 Series
Seat: 1B (to me, it's the best seat in the house, and the most comfortable Dash 8 ride I've ever had in my life!) I could actually take a short nap!

I was looking forward to this experience and I tell you that it was exciting . . . initially . . .until I encountered tremendous delays that led to much stress, but that story is still to come! Hang on! I left CBP facilities and put my bags on a carousel to be transferred to the main terminal baggage claim area. I could not carry the heavy luggage. It was so heavy one could get a stroke! I waited almost 15 minutes to get my bags. Meanwhile, I went to the Starbucks on the arrivals level, and got myself a Tazo tea, downed it, and finally collected my bags. I proceeded to the departures level and went to get a ticket from PDX to SEA. Since I knew that SEA in the early morning was always severely foggy, I opted to go through GEG. I handed the agent my CO Silver Elite card and she entered it in, and she gave me the boarding passes, after I paid for the ticket. I then proceeded to security as the lines were getting longer. I had to go to Concourse A. Before that, I got a puff of fresh air in the screening machines. This was my first time. The TSA inspector was very talkative in a friendly way. Of many cities I've flown through in US, PDX is the BEST! The people there are nice - well, at least in the airport. He checked through all my model aircraft and admired them. He sent me off with well-wishes, and directed me to Concourse A. Flight 2366 would encounter a short delay due to the fog. Flights to Seattle that morning were very delayed due to fog there. Concourse A was a mad-house in PDX that morning, but Horizon did a lot to accommodate the delays. Why they were given the honor of being voted 2007 Best Regional Airline by ATW, I have no doubt at all! Delays or not, Horizon has done very well IMHO. We commenced boarding and these are the shots I took. On my way down I also took some pictures of the community art work that welcomed visitors to Portland with the sign, "Portland, Gateway to Oregon". Along the way, I took a picture of a Q400, from two perspectives. Sorry that I reversed the order. I'm still getting used to posting photos. Enjoy them. I also have a shot of me in my beloved 1B seat on the PDX-GEG segment.

Being first off the plane, and having 5 hours layover, one would have the time to capture these shots!

That's my trip report leading me from Portland to Spokane. I ran out of batteries for the Spokane-Seattle portion. By that time, I was so drained by the long layover and stressed that I may not make my 10:00 p.m. connection, nor my "urgent appointment with an overseas client" in Seattle (translation: telephone conference with my girlfriend who called me from Hong Kong).

I hope you all enjoyed the report and the photos. Again, please bear with me as this is my first. Show me how to do it more effectively next time. Thanks! Again, sorry for the 2 month delay! I got so frustrated by not knowing how. Today, being New Year's Day, I had all the time in the world to figure it out!

AS ???
Dep Spokane: 150p ETD, 450p ATD
Arr Seattle: 245p ETA, 545p ATA
EQP: B737-400
Seat: 12C

By the time we were so delayed, I lost all motivation to take photos. It was a regular milk cart run between the Spokane and Seattle. I had enough time to take a nap, but albeit, it was not the most comfortable as it was a full house on that flight with so many passengers bumped off other flights. I should say AS/QX's system as a whole was really screwed up that day, but still they managed okay. Yet, that was in my opinion only. Y'all should have seen the general reaction at SEA-TAC later on with people filing lost/misplaced baggage claims! It was worse than a refugee camp! Still, the agent tried to do everything he could. Where are his co-workers?! No one was helping him, so I give him credit by the time he dealt with me. He was very patient and helped me out, and ensured that my bag would arrive. Thing is, I only missed one. It got taken off the carousel in GEG, when it should have connected on the same flight.

Anyways, I still will fly Alaska and Horizon. I am still impressed by them. Others might feel "oppressed", but I still give a thumbs up to Alaska and Horizon for handling the long delay and constantly notifying passengers.

When ATW gave them the designation of 2007 Best Regional Airline, they sure knew what was a superb regional airline!
