Here is my trip report (my first) from a roundtrip I completed a few weeks ago on Continental/Continental Express:

Reservations:
Grade: C-
I bought my tickets on Continentals website, very simple and easy. I had the paper tickets shipped to my house (using US Mail..big mistake) the tickets never arrived and the day before the flight I had to drive out to DFW to be ticketed. Very friendly and helpful agents at DFW though.

Frequent Flyer Program
Grade: A
OnePass has greatly improved from the mid-nineties, one reason is due to the alliance with Northwest. Also the alliance with Emirates is a testament to the fine service on Continental. (Emirates is very picky about the airlines it allies itself with)

28 Jun 2001
Continental Express Flight 4031
Dallas Love Field to Houston Bush-Intercontinental
Scheduled Dep. and Arr. Time: 5:00PM-6:10PM
Actual Dep. and Arr. Time: 4:58PM-5:44PM
Flt. Time: 46 mins.
Equip: ERJ-145
Seat: 12A

Check-in/Ticketing/Gate Agents:
Grade: B
Stood in line for less than 5 minutes before being helped. Helped by a business-like yet friendly ticket agent.

Gate Area:
Grade: B
Pretty small for two gates in the same area, but you come to expect that at Love Field. Clean and comfortable though.

Seats/Interior:
Grade: A
Looked and smelled brand new, very clean cabin. The real leather seats added a nice touch (they looked like real leather at least!). Quite comfortable for a R.J.

Meal:
Grade: B-
Since the flight was going to be quicker than planned the snack was forgone and we were offered a choice of orange juice or water once aloft.

Flight Attendant:
Grade: D
She was not very professional looking, had middle part of ear pierced, shirt untucked...Was built more like a defensive lineman than a flight attendant. Service matched appearance, acted as if she had a better place to be.

Continental Airlines Flight 1576
Houston Bush-Intercontinental to Atlanta
Scheduled Dep. and Arr. Time: 6:50PM-9:57PM
Actual Dep. and Arr. Time: 10:52PM-1:33AM
Flt. Time: 1 hour 41 minutes
Equip: MD-80
Seat: 21F

Gate Agents:
Grade: A
This was a very manageable four hour delay due to excellent updates by the gate agents every fifteen minutes. (the delay was due to severe weather at IAH and ATL)

Gate Area:
Grade: D+
A Continental gate in Houston is definetly not where you want to spend four hours, not recommended. Very cramped, small, and noisy...I took refuge in a bar, walking back to the gate every fifteen minutes to check on the flight.

Seats/Interior:
Grade: B+
New Continental seats in coach, the seats with "wings", like in World Traveller class on BA. The seats were very comfortable and the cabin was fairly clean.

Meal:
Grade: B-
Better than most US majors, "snack" consisted of a small turkey sandwich, carrot sticks, and a pecan bar. It was pretty good albeit small.

Flight Attendants:
Grade: B
Friendly, quick and effiecient they must be commended for being this way even after our delay in Houston plus more Unaccompanied Minors than I could count.

Baggage Service:
Grade: A+
I think they sent our bags on a flight that was scheduled to leave IAH at 9:05PM, so by the time we gotten to Atlanta our bags were off the belt and waiting for us. Nice.
---
In Atlanta I spent time with my family, and slept, and slept some more.

Continental Airlines Flight 1759
Atlanta to Houston Bush-Intercontinental
Scheduled Dep. and Arr. Time: 12:20PM-1:29PM
Actual Dep. and Arr. Time: 12:18PM-1:01PM
Flt. Time: 1 hour 43 minutes
Equip: 737-800
Seat: 14F

Check-In/Ticketing/Gate Agents:
Grade: C-
I arrived at the airport about 45 minutes before my flight, check-in lasted about 25 minutes and the arduous trek to Terminal D lasted 15. All in all, I almost missed my flight because it seemed half of Atlanta was flying Continental and there were only 4 positions open.

Gate Area:
Grade: C+
From past knowledge I can say that the Continental gate area in Atlanta is not as spacious as a gate for Delta. Still clean and comfortable though.

Seats/Interior:
Grade: B+
Same interior and seats as that on the MD-80, only this time in a 3-3 instead of a 2-3 configuration. Very neat and tidy.

Meal:
Grade: B-
Same snack as above; small turkey sandwich, carrot sticks, and a pecan bar. Good for a U.S. airline but not for most European/Asian carriers.

In-Flight Entainment:
Grade: C
Weak! Same CNN taping that I saw on Delta a few weeks previous, also the Continental Comedy feature was an old I Love Lucy episode, sorry CO, not very entertaining. After watching those parts of the show, I longed for the air map (which was not shown) and instead listened to my CD player. I must say what saved Continental from an "F" in this category is a excellent magazine with a great in-depth feature on CEO/COO Gordon Bethune this month.

Flight Attendants:
Grade: A+
Smiling, cheerful, and energetic this group seemed genuinely happy to be serving customers. Nice job!

CONNECTING TO

Continental Express Flight 4127
Houston Bush-Intercontinental to Dallas Love Field
Scheduled Dep. and Arr. Time: 2:15PM-3:20PM
Actual Dep. and Arr. Time: 2:16PM-3:22PM
Flt. Time: 1 hour 6 minutes
Equip. ERJ-145
Seat: 12A

Gate Agents:
Grade: A
Very funny! When they were making a standby announcements for a flight to Midland-Odessa they said they were looking for a passengers by the names of John Rocker, Monica Lewinsky, and Bill Clinton. Nice sense of humor. (That would have been an interesting flight)

Gate Area:
Grade: B-
Like the other gate areas in Houston this one is small and cramped, the main plus is the use of jetways to board the regional jet.

Seats/Interior:
Grade: F
Two words sum up the shape this cabin was in: not good. You'd think that the cabin would still be great shape on any ERJ-145 because they are so new...not so. The interior furnishings are the same as the previous ERJ-145 I flew, but on this plane there were small pieces of paneling on the wall missing, there were black fingerprint and scuff marks all over the place and the on my tray table there was 2'x2' chunk missing from the corner, revealing all the modern technology that goes into making a tray table. The seats were worn, all I can say is "not good".

Meal:
Grade: B-
Not bad for a commuter flight, peanuts and chips. But nothing could take my eye from the chunk of tray table missing.

Flight Attendants:
Grade: C+
Somewhat chatty but seemed kinda gloomy the whole flight. She elbowed me in the head while serving drinks, ouch...not much of an apology was offered.

Baggage Service:
Grade: B
You'd think in an airport like Love Field coming off a regional jet you'd collect your claim your bag in a jiffy, not so...it took 25 minutes for the checked luggage to appear on the conveyor belt.
---
MY OVERALL EXPERIENCE ON CONTINENTAL AIRLINES:
GRADE: B
Very impressive up until the last flight.

Thanks for reading
