Norway is great this time of year, with the contrast of dark green woods and the white patches of winter.

I had a trip today with my brother (the photographer), from Torp Sandefjord to Notodden.

They can be seen in my blog, and for you who does not want to visit some boring blog I will post everything right here (click the picture for the full enjoyment):

It is a new learning experience everytime I fly, and I love it. Today was special, since the circumstances where perfect for both photography and the enjoyment throughout the flight.

Hope you enjoyed this little report, and I strongly encourage to post similar reports from your part of the world. It is really interesting to see different places of this fantastic planet that God created.

FANTASTIC PHOTOS!!! I LOVE PRs ... You know I want to fly in Norway. Damn, I'm coming to Scandinavia again this month, but I'll only make it to Stockholm and Helsinki (Finland is not technically in Scandinavia is it?)

Yes sir... look for one coming from me very soon!

Keep posting them and hey, if I ever make it to Norway, we have to go flying. Anytime you're up in Canada please let me know. I'll take you up in my DA40.

Cheers,

Vio

Mr. Oldman, sometimes they work sometimes they don't. I've looked at this report about 5 times and I think twice, nothing loaded up.

Hope all is well..

Cheers,

Vio

Great photos. Terrific winter shots, especially the sunset/(sunrise?) shots. Quick question, what sort of de-icing does a GA aircraft undergo where you fly from (if any)? No ice where I fly so it is not really an issue.

For you guys having touble seeing them, move your mouse around in the midlle of the report over the tiny "dots" and click to open them up.

Can't wait for your report, I love them. Nice to see something different than a C-172 as well.

Well obviously, the de-icing only applies before the flight, and if there is reported any sort of icing in-flight it is a no-go.

We actually had to de-ice the aircraft before this particular flight, because it had been a moist night with temperature below freezing. There was about half a centimeter of ice and hoar frost, and since it was below freezing point during the de-icing we had ourselves quite a pickle.

What we did, was to take a hot bucket of water and a sponge, and spread the water over the wings and the horizontal stabilizer. Since the water froze again in a couple of minutes, we had to wipe it off.
Some people put a little bit of glycol (a part of the de-icing fluid used on commercial airliners) in the water, to skip the problem of the water freezing again, but we didn't do that as I was told that it could hurt the paint.

Hey WorkFlyer,

Like BoeingonFinal said, if there's a chance that we'll encounter Icing along the way, it's a no go. If we do develop icing en-route we have to divert and land as soon as possible. It could get very dangerous.

Usually we try to keep our DA40 in the hangar and only take it out when we're ready to start up the engine, but sometimes, hangar space is limited (when an aircraft goes tech) so we're faced with de-icing the plane. We use a glycol mix on the DA40. It works very well, but we have to make sure we're up in the air as fast as we can.

Cheers,

Vio

That's awesome!!! But the 172 is a great plane as well. I just love GA Pilot Reports! They're VERY interesting!

Great pics, thanks! Though it took a while to get them visible, only tiny spots left on my screen, don't know why...

Yes strictly speaking Denmark, Norway, Sweden make Scandinavia, add Finland & Iceland and you get the Nordic countries - but the non-Nordics speaking about Scandinavia often mean all the Nordic countries and the autonomic areas there (Greenland, Aland, Faroe Islands etc). It depends who you ask... I have heard Germans saying Denmark is part of Central-Europe and Scandinavia starts north of it...
